Could Corel, please, please, please give us a choice of background colour for the worktop. Black makes the instruction of various icons almost impossible to read. Rolly. :( :x

I encounter problems with this far too many times. I hope you fix it.

Reference: The Settings/Preferences/Edit options:
-- Under the "Transition Effect" / "Automatically add transition effect," I have that box unchecked. But, VS ignores that fact and applies a transition anyway!
-- Under "Default transition effect:" the drop-down dialog (with many effects listed) does NOT contain an option such as "NONE" or "NO TRANSITION."

Users are forced into selecting one of those anyway and it gets applied whether you want it to, or not.
This happens frequently. It shouldn't happen at all.

Sorry but I do not experience your "transition" problem. Once I have unchecked the "auto transition" box it remains unchecked.

Since the "auto transition" is unchecked then there is no need for any "none" or "no transition".

If your VVS X9 does not behave this way then your install is corrupt or you are doing something wrong

Even if you have the "Automatically add" box unticked Videostudio will add a transition if you overlap clips when you add them to the timeline - if you do not want transitions added automatically then the solution is simple = do not overlap clips when adding them - put them in the timeline a short distance to the right - in the top track videos will then automatically butt against the previous one - without a transition - and in overlay tracks you can then just gently slide the clip to butt.

I guess the problem is that once the box has been checked, and a transition selected, there is no way to remove that previously-chosen effect to stop it from adding one accidentally--if, clips are too close together. BrianCee mentioned this is his post. However, I find in the Timeline (not the top track) that once they are inserted, it's difficult to move them around, especially when things are synced! My usual solution is to <Alt-Z> to undo that last step. Actually, I'd love to have a right-click pop-up (when highlighting the effect) with an option to "Remove this Effect."

Issue with "Replace clip" and Missing items in Library

Post by Old_Friend »

Sometimes I like to move some of my video clips (avi) and/or photos to a custom folder on my hard disk drive. However, VS has the following issues making life miserable for users when doing that.

Examples:
-- In the Library, after I've moved certain files to a custom folder:

1. VS displays the yellow icons for the files missing from the current project(s). That's understandable and acceptable. VS doesn't know where they are now.

2. However, there is no easy way to have VS let me "Designate the current path." That won't work in the Library. VS does have a Menu option to load one or more items into the Library, but that only loads duplicates of the missing ones (yellow icons) which forces users to then delete all the ones with yellow icons. (Those yellow icons could have a pop-up when right-clicked to "Locate path." It should also allow users to select a group of those so they can all be loaded (assuming they all exist in the same folder path).

On the Timelines:
3. If my project is loaded onto the timelines, the missing files are there but, they are all "blank." That's because VS has not kept track of the names and types of the items. So, users can't tell which clip/photo was there originally. That makes it damned-near impossible to replace those missing clips without knowing their names. The current method of doing this is utterly tedious, especially if there are 30 or more different items to hunt down and replace ONE-AT-A-TIME! Even worse, VS doesn't let users know if a missing item in timeline is a photo or a video file. There's no indication. So, how does a user know what to "replace it" with?

What I would love to have VS do is to give me a new Option (for Library use) to let me select one or a group of missing items then, allow me to "Designate Current PATH to Folder" where they are located so that it will load & replace the missing yellow-icons, AUTOMATICALLY. To me, that seems very logical.

Of course, I am aware that I could pile everything into VS's "default" Windows' folders. But, users should not be restricted to that chaotic arrangement.

I hope you will consider this for VSX10.

I also do so but... before I start the project.
Although you have a valid point that VS is quite stupid not showing the clips names even if their path is missing, the workaround for U will be is better ordering your files before starting the project.

Well for most of us if we have moved clips and get the yellow symbol on them selecting the first gets the option to 'Relink' (showing the name of the file requiring re-linking ) - selecting that opens a 'Relink window where you can browse to the file and select it - - "Designate Current PATH to File" if you like -- more often than not if all the missing files are in one folder Videostudio automatically selects all and displays the message "all clips have been relinked successfully" -- it may then be necessary to do the same with the clips in the timeline

Issue with "Replace clip" and Missing items in Library

Post by lata »

Hi Old Friend

I think you are missing something when using Re-link. View the pop up panels carefully.

2 / From the Library --- provided the missing clips are in the same HD folder the program will relink all missing clips.

3 / The re-link panel shows the name of the clip as “Original file [E:\JAZZ TEST MCE\JAZZ CAM 01.MP4] doesn't exist.”
Then when we select re-link, the search panel shows the file name at the top as a reminder \ JAZZ CAM 01.MP4

If files are in different locations then re-link may be needed again.

When the re-link panel shows check that Relink Checking and Smart Search are selected

Hi Brian,
Your suggestion about clicking on only "the first" one [yellow missing clip], is something I didn't know. Thanks for the tip. However, and ironically, I did try doing that several times but, it didn't work for me. It reported something like "File does not exist..." or, something else more cryptic? Yet, when I use my file manager to search my hard drive for that particular filename, windows finds it in the same custom folder with all the other missing files!
** I think that happens because Corel VS does not recognize my custom folders' name? It can't see it or use that folder. Maybe?

Plus, I see a potential problem with VS when/if it does work the way you said.
** What if a user has many missing clips and wants to re-link ONLY the first clip? Suddenly, all the others would be filled, too. [Note: I would prefer this 'problem' over nothing replaced at all. grin.]

A solution to that might be to have an additional option in the pop-up to:
"Relink all selected clips?"
"Relink only this clip?" <<==
I'm getting carried away with this. My intent was to get Corel to consider and hopefully incorporate some of these missing, very user-friendly, options into an otherwise wonderful product!

Hi lata! Just to reiterate, usually, I do not get a pop-up with the name of the missing file. Neither do I see it offering to re-link when selecting or right-clicking ANY of the yellow icons in the Library (FAR RIGHT SIDE PANEL of the UI). Those yellow icons do not respond to anything I do with them. Items in the Timeline, do offer re-linking.

In which case I would either suspect the library is corrupt in some way or the video clips are corrupt.

The yellow markers have been used for Re-linking and when the clips are not being read by the program, probably a codec issue.

One reason that comes to mind is if we capture a video and its audio stream separately, the audio stream may take on a video extension.
Splitting audio could be one example, where the audio clip shows using a video extension.

I think a little complex to explain properly.

You may be best to locate the clips on your hard drive, upload to a sharing site so we can try to replicate what you see.

But certainly your issues are not just a re-link problem, although you always seem to have some re-linking to do, which cannot be right.
I can only assume its the way you are saving/ managing your files on your hard drive.

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X10

Hi lata,
I have not been referring to video clips, narration, music, nor movie clips, specifically. I have a few .vsp files which contain only .jpg and/or .png photos. One of those .vsp files contains very many photos in the main track and also an identical, associated sound file (a single "camera snapshot" sound) in the sound track correlating to each photo. No lengthy music, videos, etc. With that setup, I had to re-link each photo and each "camera snapshot" sound file --manually. It took over 1/2-hour to just for the "camera shapshot" sound files, and was very tedious. They were so small (visibly, on the timeline) that I had to zoom in-and-out frequently, just to see them! So, I don't think it's a video issue, codec issue, or streaming issue.

Thanks for considering those things as a possible causes,

--Old_Friend.

You said you create custom folders in Windows and move your project files into those folders. Of course when you open the project, VS can then no longer find those files.
Did you add your custom folder also to the VS library?
