Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
When I select my VS 8 icon on desktop nothing happens. I get window saying, "Another user is running Corel VS on this computer. Please close the other session of Corel VS before starting Corel VS again." But I'm not running any other Corel product. I also cannot get Corel VS 6 and 7 on my desktop to come on, and get same window warning that another user is running my VS software. I checked Task Manager and it showed no VS software running. Also could not find any VS icon pinned on bottom task bar. I rebooted computer, but problem remains. This never happened before. Regards, Mike

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
Did this only occur after the Windows 7 update last night? If so, others are experiencing the same thing and Corel are aware of it. See http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 31#p321131 and http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 57#p321157

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
Okay, I installed this "Hot Fix" for my VS X8. And it is now working! HOWEVER, a major special effect I'm using through out my video project will not load with the rest of my project. It was in my VS timeline working fine before the Window 7 update. Now they're whited out and I get a "file format mismatch" window or a window saying it don't exist. It's a special effect from Digital Juice named "289_JumpBack.mov" which plays an important part in my Documentary. If I try opening it in my library or on my hard drive I still get "file format mismatch". Before, these "Jump Back" clips always worked fine in my videos. Even just yesterday! Now I can't open any. Not sure if it was caused by Window 7 update last night or the "Hot Fix" I used today to start VS X8. So we're still not there. Any ideas??? Regards, Mike

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
Just as an experiment, can you use a video converter to change the .mov clip into something else such as mp4. If that works it could suggest that the Win update somehow screwed up the ability of VS to deal with Quicktime video (or even Window's ability in this regard). At any rate it could be a workaround until a longer term solution is found.

Thanks Ken. I did as you suggested. Converted the rejected "mov" video clips to mp4. And yes, they now work and are in my project. So again thanks. Mike

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
Something is going on with Quicktime. A few days ago I created an MOV file from an existing MP4 file using VS (I put the MP4 file on the timeline, went to share, and output a MOV file). it worked fine. Today I try the same, and the program outputs an AVI file. And, yes, I tried it more than once and with different files on the timeline. Now the combination of VS and MS seems to have blown up my computer. It won't boot up but sits there. The disk is working but I have no idea what it is doing. Curse! What a day!

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
As many of us are aware, the latest windows updates on 2-10-16 have caused VS8 not to open. I checked the corel downloads and nothing posting there hence I dug further and found this forum. I found the Hotfix and Corel opens successfully however one issue persists that did not appear before the Windows 2-10-16 updates and the hotfix VS8 Hotfix 2.
With using both Canon Cameras 5D Mark III and 7 D Mark II, there was "zero" issue on inserting MOV files previous to 2-10-16. Now that the Hotfix has been applied there's another mess that Corel (not Quicktime) needs to correct. The error upon inserting an MOV file now states its a Microsoft C++ Runtime Dialog box which shows: Assertion Failed ! (see the attached file I've inserted). I can get around this by click IGNORE each time the error pops and then the MOV works.
Again, this did not exist before the Windows updates and the recent HotFix.

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
Hi Revup67
I have installed the hot fix and do not have a problem with Canon 7D Mov files.
The error message indicates an issue with QuickTime, so have you tried reinstalling QT
You could also use system restore to before the hot fix.
Then uninstall the two KB windows updates, that will get X8 running and no need of the hot fix.

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
Hi - thanks for the fast note. I downloaded the latest update for Quicktime and no resolve. However the error shows the dialog box is from C++, not Quicktime. Makes sense as C++ is a Microsoft product and so were the updates.
I noted 3 Windows updates by another user. Which 2 KB's are you referring too? Also I had just bought 8.5 in mid December. Do you think an upgrade to version 9 is included as part of the guarantee for a 90 day window? Also are there any issues with version 9 and the latest updates?
Thanks

Assuming the Corel hotfix has not worked for you then the updates you need to un-install are - - KB3126587 and KB3126593

Hi
If it’s a Microsoft Visual C++ problem, you could try Uninstall that should give the repair option, I think my X8 version is 12.0.21005
If you list Program and Features in installed date the Microsoft Visual should be adjacent to Corel Video Studio 8.

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
To all users attempting this: uninstall of these two updates KB3126587 and KB3126593 does solve the issue however its important to do the following once you've rebooted and uninstalled both.
Upon reboot, Go into Windows updates in control panel and change your Update settings to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download.."etc then be sure and click OK at the bottom. At this point I had to then have windows "check for updates" an option which is also in the same location under Windows updates. Once it does, the updates will show again vs. a force download and install which becomes a vicious cycle. At this point click look for these two updates under "Download and install updates for your computer" prompt. Locate the two updates and right click on each then choose HIDE. This will stop these two from re-appearing and trying to install again.

Re: Video Studio Pro 8 will not start
I'm having the exact same experience with Quicktime after installing the hotfix. I have tried using newer and older versions of Quicktime and get the same error when using a .Mov file in VS X8.
Ignoring the error lets you go forward somewhat, but the file then has no audio.
I suspect this error is related to the same Windows 7 update that caused the original "will not start problem" since Visual C++ is mentioned in the error message.
Hopefully another hotfix, with a bit of QC done before its release, is forthcoming.
I'm now unwilling to do anymore system restores,Windows updates and re-updates for fear of compounding this issue.
Any news of a solution is appreciated.
