The only two updates you need to remove are
KB3126587 and KB3126593 that will solve the problem
..
KB3126587 and KB3126593 that will solve the problem

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I was quite emotional in my last post. In fact, I next uninstalled and hid KB3126587 and KB3126593 and everything went well (I had to re-installed VSX7 because in the middle of the troubles I had gone into a demo version, but that was ok). Finally VSX7 loaded properly and everything is ok.
Or is it?
Now in a calmer mood, I should point out that it is not. The next might be just paranoid speculation, but looking at an earlier post (Feb 11) which explained what those two Win updates do in terms of .dll handling, I think it's scary for the future. We users of VSX7 on Windows 7 have just made Win7 -non-standard-. This means our Win7's might break tomorrow, or any -other- program running under this non-standard operating system might fail tomorrow. I do software development and support for a living (big software, for 1/2 million dollar machines), and we have to support everything, and support it -forever-, until the machine falls apart. I my experience, the latest that a problem turns up, the worse it would be to diagnose. One year, two years down the road, we will not trace the failure to these two missing windows updates. Win7 has still almost 5 years of support by Microsoft. I think that Corel -should- develop patches for at least the versions of Video Studio that are able to run in a Win7. If you have Ulead VS 8, as I used to have in my last Win XP, and it doesn't work, sure I should not complain. But a software that is 2 versions behind? The solution cannot be to make the operating system non-standard. And as users, we should not accept it.
For me, all other solutions --upgrade to Win10 pro (not home, I would not take the forceful Win-Updts), or upgrade to VSX8-- are unacceptable, and require moneys that Corel or Microsoft will not forfeit.
So again, Corel, if you used some programming technique in VSX7 that you DON'T use anymore in VSX8, and it's not longer supported by Microsoft, this is the moment to show how much you care for your customers, tight your figurative belt, and produce a patch! Otherwise, they are other brands out there...
In any case, you guys in this blog are still the best. Thanks again for helping. Let's hope that we are all lucky, extremely lucky, and this monstrosity of incomplete Win7 + unsupported VSX7 lasts for a while at least.

Corel have indicated that a patch for X7 on Windows 7 will be available soon - and once installed you should be able to re-install the windows patches without further problems

It is not the first time that MS kills some applications with their own upgrades. Where is their responsibility?
I know from my professional praxis that we had to switch off the MS upgrades in several high-end servers and computers to avoid conflicts in different key application. ( not to mention the different briwser versions.... )
Many companies that time changed from windows to Linux or Mac.

Hi ! Bonjour aux francophnes !
I use VS for 15 years. From Ulead VS to Corel VS9. I think the best version is VSX4. As everybody I cant'use since MS upgrade. It is a big problem for me. I work for a little cinema. Fortunately I have the cd of VSX2 version. I tried to install it. I don't have anay problem. We can open VSX2 whith MS update. It was a good news for me even if this version is less good than VS4.
I hope that Corel will help us.
Sorry for my poor english.

Thank you Jean-Marc - - unfortunately I do not think Corel will repair X2 or X4 - or any version from X6 and older
One member of this forum contacted Corel support and was given a VERY good price for X9 - may be worth you trying that

Interesting that X2 ( VS12) works ok
Did you uninstall the Windows Updates that caused these problems.
How…
In Control Panel, Programs and Features, click View Installed Updates.
- Remove KB3126587 and/or KB3126593
- Do NOT reboot.
- Run Check for Updates again.
- Select update , right click
- Hide updates KB3126587 and/or KB3126593.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Hi Lata,
I copied your instructions from 2/14 and planned to jump though the hoops to make ProX8 work. Then I noticed in a post that there are security issues that the Windows updates addressed. Yikes! I noticed that Des provided the link to buy the upgrade to ProX9 for $59.99. I thought to myself, hey spend the $59.99 and be done with it! And just get rid of ProX5. Then I saw your post to Ilene to WAIT to upgrade to ProX9 and that there were some recent reports of Windows 10 updates also affecting Video Studio. Hmm. I don't want to go from Windows 7 to 10 until I absolutely have to. So does ProX9 have the same problems with Windows? I am on the fence still.
FYI: I have been working with Corel via email. They made me uninstall ProX8, remove temp files, and reinstall ProX8 again. If that did not work (which we knew it wouldn't) they said to send them the msinfo32 file and the WinAudit report. I did that yesterday. The Corel rep does not mention the Windows issue! So now I am waiting for their reply.
This is what you get with an open operating system like Windows. I hate the idea of switching to a Mac. My computer life has always been Windows.

You don't mention the hotfix - did you try that - takes a couple of minutes to download and install - no messing with windows updates - solved the problem for many X8 users.

Brian,
I thought that you had to also remove those updates and hide them? So You are saying I can just do the hot fix and that takes care of ProX8. I don't have to do anything else?
