Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I have experienced the same difficult of many others of being unable to open VideoStudion Pro 8 due as I discovered by an upgrade by Microsoft. I was in touch with Corel who said they would look into it but were unaware of a Windows upgrade.
This morning I received a reply from Corel which I am very unhappy with - basically I am being offered offered two choices, firstly to upgrade to Windows 10 or secondly to purchase an upgraded version of VideoStudio X9. I have communicated my dissatisfaction with Corel who are passing the buck rather than solving the problem. I also communicated that I do not have confidence in Corel and that financing an upgrade software would be better spent with a company that looks after its customers and provides a better service when difficulties and challenges.
I am attaching the response I received from Corel and I hope some or many may agree with my dissatisfaction and frustration:
Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.
There were a series of Microsoft Security Update patches released last week that fixed a vast amount of security driven issues within Windows 7.
With these updates, older versions of Videostudio on Windows 7 have ceased function and will not launch.
We recommend either upgrading your version of Windows to the new Windows 10; if your computer can support the new platform, or consider upgrading to the newest version of Videostudio.
Please be aware that the upgrade to Windows 10, is in fact free, and if the interface is not to your liking, you have the choice to revert back to your original Operating System within 30 days.
Also, we do have a special incentive upgrade price for the new version of Videostudio. You can obtain all information at the following link:

Unfortunately we are not in a position to offer you much more - we are completely in Corels hands and until they give us more information all we can offer is to remove two of the updates as mentioned in previous posts - or apply the X8 hotfix - unfortunately there also seems to be a problem with instant projects so if you use any of those you will still have problems.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I have a similar question to Mister Ken Veal.
1. How to uninstall the three Windows updates that seem to be the problem for almost everything ? If you look at the image attached, you'll see that KB3134814 is missing in the list. Is it normal ?
2. By uninstalling these updates, will I recover all the Instant Project templates and the Flash animations that are presently not working ?
3. Would it be best to uninstall completely my VS Ultimate X8, reinstall my old Ultimate X6 and X8 by after ? OR if I buy the new Ultimate X9, everything will get everything to normal ?

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
There are only two updates to uninstall and KB3134814 is not one of them
the updates to uninstall are KB3126587 and KB 3126593
don't forget to hide them as instructed so that they do not install again
No you will not recover your instant projects after that - we have no idea how to do that - hopefully Corel engineers will advise us soon
You will gain nothing at all by un-installing X6 and X8 that will not cure the problem - the problem of not starting seems to also affect X9 although the instant projects appear to work in X9 after you have removed the windows updates

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
After my posts on : http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58710, http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 8&start=30 and http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58688,
I'm GLAD to inform all the community that my problem is SOLVED.
I had the following problems : VideoStudio Ultimate X8.5 would'nt start after the latest Windows update. I downloaded et executed the hotfix. VS did start, but there are at least 36 templates not working. Difficult to understand why V-53.VSP and some others are not working in VS, but it works with Corel FastFlick X8. All my « swf » animation flash are not playing. Files cannot be read and are not my hard drive anymore. See attached document.
Although VS was full functional after I executed the hotfix, I had other problems. I read all pages of the posts. I've uninstalled KB3126587, did not reboot as suggested by Iata. I then uninstalled KB3125693. I stopped my computer. Windows asked me to not close and it took a long, BUT LONG LONG time to close. I started my computer, then VideoStudio. SURPRISE everything is back and FUNCTIONAL (Instant projects templates and SWF Flash animations).
MANY THANKS to site administrators : Iata, BrianCee and Ken Berry.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I just wanted to thank the moderators for pointing out the solutions of removing KB3126587 and KB3126593. I am so happy that my X5 ultimate works again! I downloaded the X8 trial version and that wouldn't work without the Corel patch, but as you've mentioned that doesn't help earlier versions.
One reason I keep Windows 7 is that I review downloaded video files with Windows Media player and Windows 10 kills it. Further, Windows 10 has video driver issues on an HP laptop I "upgraded" from windows 7. I had to reinstall 7 to get the computer to play DVD-r or BD-r without stuttering.
Do you have any idea if VS X4 and X5 will work with Windows 10? I downloaded the x8 trial and it looks like the same thing with a very slight change in look.
One final question, I also use Adobe Premier Elements once in a while. It has a tilt straightening function which is handy sometimes. I much prefer Corel though. Does Corel have any plans to make a tilt straightener?
Thanks again!

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I have previously uninstalled the 2 offending updates and stopped auto updates from happening. In order to have further auto updates applied I am now trying to Hide the updates but must be doing something wrong because I cannot see them to hide.
This is what I have done
1 control panel
2 programmes and features
3 view installed updates
4 right click kb3126587 and uninstall- choose
restart later
5 do not reboot
6 right click kb3126593 and uninstall- choose
restart later
7 do not reboot
8 view installed updates
The 2 updates do not show so I cannot Hide them
and then turn auto updates on.
help please

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Microsoft said they have no clue about it after my 30 min live chat and they did a couple things that didn't work,
so yes for now uninstall last updates and put updates to manual. if corel doesn't fix, then not sure what to do. Not fair if they don't I can't afford 9 .

If you simply apply the Corel "Fix" to X8, it works perfectly with the updates in place.RadioRollins wrote:Microsoft said they have no clue about it after my 30 min live chat and they did a couple things that didn't work,

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

I think your fine up to here KenKen Veal wrote: The 2 updates do not show so I cannot Hide them

but I found I needed to reboot after No.8 which cleared the old updates and allows you to go to Windows updates and use 'check for updates' after a lot of whirring of that silly little wheel my computer downloaded the two updates - at that point you can right click on them and choose Hide from the pop-out
then just close the update window and windows will not download or try to install those updates until you later on 'unhide' them

Set Windows update options (Change settings) to use (Download Updates but let me choose whether to install)
Then reboot the pc.
view Windows updates should show the two updates, or check for Updates.
View updates to install, now right click to Hide, do for both updates.
Now set Change settings back to Auto if that's what you use.
Hope this helps

my attempts show that the Hot Fix only allows the program to run, but for some the updates affects the function of the program in particular SWF files, but others have different problems, so for me uninstalling updates and ignoring hotfix is the better option.
Till Corel come up with a fix.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Corel seems to have missed the fact that the auto music has changed drastically between X7 and X8. I only keep X7 because I have some videos that may need to be updated that use the auto music. If I update to X8 only, I can't use the same music for revisions to that project.
This annoys me. I purchased X8 because I needed some new features. So I lost the old features in X7 that I still use.
I have no intention of upgrading Windows from 7 to 10 if there is any way to avoid it. Microsoft has already lost my trust when they put out Windows 8 and 8.1. I don't trust Windows 10. Both the Mac and Mint LINUX are more desirable than Windows.
So, it seems that it is time to move to the Mac and Premier and After Effects. I have already moved to TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 (http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tvmw6.html) because VSP X8 DVD and BD menu system don't work reasonably. (Some undesirable buttons are forced present, specifically, "Play All" on submenus, and the sequence between "standard" buttons and project buttons doesn't work correctly, almost forcing viewers to make mistakes. BAD HUMAN FACTORS, COREL.
So, let me put it simply, Corel: patch X7 so I don't lose features I need, or lose a customer. By the way, I also use Corel Draw and Corel Paintshop Pro.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Dear Trevor and Ken Veal - I had same problem, could not open VX6, 7, or 8, but Ken, I did your 8 steps then Trevor I did your check for updates and hid the two offending updates .... 587 and .... 593 and I am back in business. I have changed my Win 7 Pro update settings to let me review them first. Hopefully Corel will come up with a fix for those of us not wanting to upgrade to Win 10 at this time.
Thanks so so much for your help. I really appreciate this forum!!

Hi All
Just joined this Web Board as my VSX7 would not open. Just like to thank you as I have uninstalled the three updates, disabled the auto update, reboot and I now can open VSX7. I've been waiting for 36 hours for a response from the help desk but in future I'll come straight to this site. Thanks
