Hi Ralph
Not sure I understand, are you asking “What is the difference between HID and uninstalling”.
Once we uninstall a Windows update it will be re-installed again unless we stop that, and hiding the update will stop it being Re-Installed

If you can hide an update, how do you do that ?

Hi Kenneth
First access Control Panel – Windows Updates
Change the settings so “Install Updates Automatically” is not selected
I select Download updates but let me select…….
Then check for updates.
Select the updates you want to install.
Right click update to Hide

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I see that there have been several instructions about what to do about this issue throughout these posts.I am worried about not doing these fixes in the correct order for both ProX5 and X8. Is Corel going to post concise instructions somewhere so that I can fix ProX8.5, and also fix ProX5?
As I said in my post on the 12th, after I reinstalled ProX8, I tried unsuccessfully to open ProX8, so then I tried to run the Boris Graffiti App (first one of 6 patches/upgrades I downloaded for ProX8) it did not recognize my Key or email address. I am assuming the App gave me that error message because ProX8 wasn't working, but who knows. I then realized that ProX5 was not working. When I got to this point, I decided to check in with the Forum and bang! Houston we have a problem.
So do I have to dig through these instructions, piece together what to do for ProX8 and then ProX5, figure out what order to do them in (remove Windows upgrades etc.) or is Corel going to come to OUR rescue with a set of concise instructions? "Hope springs eternal." I am beginning to think it might be best to move the almost final video in ProX5 to ProX8 and get rid of X5 once I get ProX8 fixed...

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Thank you so much for this information! I first thought it was my latest virus scanner update preventing that my Video Studio X4 could start, but uninstalling then scanner and reinstalling VS did not help. And the fact that the programm did not start but would not show any error message was not helpful eitherIlene wrote:Ok good news!! My windows reconfigured after about an hour (whew!) and windoes restarted and X7 relaunched successfully!
The windows updates that we removed are
kb3134814
We removed this first and it was unsuccessful on its own
Then we removed
Kb3126587 and kb3126593
Hopefully we will never have to face something like that again in future. And, Corel company, if you want to keep your customers, please provide patches for older VS versions, not just for X8 and up.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Hi Jan1954
A windows update on the 9th caused this problem to all versions of Video Studio
For X8 Corel have provided a hot fix
http://dwnld.videostudiopro.com/updates ... tFix_2.exe
For earlier programs they indicate not going to fix with advice to upgrade OS to windows 10, (no comment required)
to date we dont know if the position has changed
Although we did receive these instructions ---
In Control Panel, Programs and Features, click View Installed Updates.
- Remove KB3126587 and/or KB3126593
- Do NOT reboot.
- Run Check for Updates again.
- Hide updates KB3126587 and/or KB3126593.
Uninstall updates will reset for all versions.

What I meant by "HID" is, Hide.
After I deleted the 2 KB files, the next time I re-checked "windows update", I clicked the 2 KB files that were back again and selected "Hide".
Now they should never come back. (hopefully).
Regards, Anthony

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I found that I needed to do a re-boot after hiding the two updates - nothing changed or worked until I did that - then everything works OK

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
So, do I understand correctly that after all the experiences and advice gathered from this forum , that the answer to this problem is:-
1 . If you are using VSX8 only you can apply a
Corel provided hot fix of
http://dwnld.videostudiopro.com/updates ... tFix_2.exe
2 Whatever version of windows or other version VS you are
using-
In Control Panel, Programs and Features, click View Installed Updates.
- Remove KB3126587 and/or KB3126593
- Do NOT reboot.
- Run Check for Updates again.
Click the 2 KB files KB3126587 and KB3126593 that were back again select "Hide".
You may probably have to reboot
3 . There will no need to stop further automatically applied Windows updates.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Yes Ken - you have it - but as far as we know at the moment this is only affecting computers running Windows 7
my computer running Windows 8.1 has not been affected at all - and Ken has confirmed he has no problems with Windows 10
but I have noticed in the past that an upgrade to Win 7 often seems to be followed by an upgrade to Win 8.1 - so we might not be completely clear yet.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I use VideoStudio infrequently so I don't want to turn off Microsoft's automatic Windows Update service.
So if VideoStudio crashes on startup, I run the following batch file and then reboot my computer. (The "start wusa /uninstall /kb:3126593 /promptrestart" will prompt if you want to reboot)
After the reboot, X5 and X8 will start up without problems.
Of course, the next time Windows does an automatic update, the two updates will be re-installed and the crash-on-startup will reappear.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I downloaded the VSX8_HotFix_2.exe and ran it as I was curious as to what had changed. It unpacks at C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Temp\{Long Hexadecimal Number}. If you copy the files to another directory before hitting the Finished button when it complains then you can examine them. Within the packed archive there is one file called "setup.inx". The date stamp on this is 4th Feb 2016. The updates came out on the 9th of Feb 2016.
Could someone from Corel explain how they made a patch five whole days before the updates were officially released? Clearly Corel knew in advance that this was a problem. In fact one of the time stamps goes back as far as November 2015. Is it coincidental that X9 is due for release in twelve days time and is only for Windows 10? This would suit both Corel's and Microsoft's agenda for upgrading.
Also, both KB3126587 and KB3126593 are listed as "Important Security Updates". The Microsoft KB's specifically talk about dependencies with dynamic link libraries (.dll files). These are important security fixes and should be installed. As Windows 8 and Windows 10 appear not to be affected by this problem are we to believe that there will no future updates that will break X6, X7 and X8 in the future with Windows 8 and 10? The advice of upgrading to Windows 10 therefore sounds rather moot with regard to older versions.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I don't understand your response to a simple question about where/how hotfixes are made available to users. What you appear to be saying is that hotfix information is given to a select group of users like yourself and that Corel does not make hotfixes directly available to paying users. It certainly is an unusual support model.BrianCee wrote:My link tells you where the hot fix is - it is here http://dwnld.videostudiopro.com/updates ... tFix_2.exe
I've no idea why you locked http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58713 rather than simply answering the question or letting someone else answer it.
Because I'd like to know how Corel makes its hotfixes available. I assume that Corel has more than one hotfix that may help its user. There is nothing out of order in asking this question so I'd appreciate if you'd let someone answer it rather than using your admin rights to lock the topic before it is answered.BrianCee wrote:why look somewhere else

I locked the topic because you have asked an identical question in another topic - if anyone wants to answer your question they can do it there
Hotfixes will be posted at http://howto.corel.com/en/c/VideoStudio ... nd_Updates - but Corel are amazingly slow at updating that page and if they tell us there is a hotfix available any where in their system we post a link - eventually the correct fix - maybe a full service pack will be published on that page
you can if you wish wait for that to happen
