Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Might be time to go MAC... Ive been resisting because despite VS and all its faults... Im so used to it and it gets the job done! I will upgrade to 9 and then decide. The laborious process of upgrading and moving all my libs and presets over and getting the software set the way I want it is always the deterrent -- and the differences from one VS to another is generally not so significant for the features I use. Which is why Ive been ok staying w 7. I think the only feature that was interesting in 8 was audio ducking, and the ability to open one project inside of another (and not even sure based on this forum whether it was working)
Thank goodness for this forum as well. Has been a lifesaver.
Maybe Corel will come around.
For now windows updates off and continuing to work on my current project in X7 on a Win 7 PC (which is also on its last legs)
Thanks all for the great advice!

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I too wasted nearly an entire day trouble shooting why my VideoStudio Pro X6 would not start.
EVERY other program on what I call my A/V desktop had no problem starting. And I mean some programs that date back to the late 1990's.
Every. One. Started.
EXCEPT Pro X6.
Thanks to this Forum I was able to do a System Restore and then not re-install Windows 7 Updates 3126587 and 3126593 in order to finish one of my video projects that was 50% completed.
However, I will NOT compromise the security of my PC over Corel's lack of product support.
I have a new laptop with Win 10 and recently allowed a 5-year old laptop to update from Win 7 to Win 10. Both run every program flawlessly.
I was going to eventually upgrade my A/V desktop to Win 10 since the Microsoft scan found no problems with any programs I use.
Now I have serious doubts that Pro X6 will work on Win 10.
So what I am basically saying to Corel is this:
I am one user that will not be forced into spending more money for an updated release of VideoStudio just because your support team does not support and update your older programs and users.
If the problems I am reading about with Pro X4 through X8 are not corrected by Corel, I can promise you that I will become a former Corel customer.
I will change my video editing program vendor long before I allow my Operating System to be vulnerable to security issues.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Hi Ilene
Yes we can use X8 and X9 to open VSP projects within an existing project.
First import the VSP to the library.
(Note already nested VSP will not import to library.)
Now drag and drop the VSP from library to timeline, should open showing all clips.
X7 can do but opens as a single clip.
Workround for X7 is to create an Instant project template, File – Export As template will place a thumbnail in Instant Projects library, drag that to the timelines.
Try with a short test project.

Hi wktcknet
Welcome to the forums…
Yes a bit of a pain having these problems, I guess we all suffered.
Unfortunately, I doubt if any Corel people will read your post.
We are volunteers helping run the forums, if you want Corel to read your post you should contact them, Corel Support or maybe via their Face book page.
I did notice earlier today that their support pages seem to be updated now having a Chat-Line
But yes we agree that Corel Support can and should be improved.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I have the same irritating issue and have sent a support request to Corel. I have since discovered Corel says it does not support v X6 - only 2 versions old. I guess I will not receive a reply or at least, not one with a solution.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
The solution Stephen for X6 users - as has been mentioned a number of times - is to uninstall two of the updates and not allow them to re-install
or take the free update to Windows 10
or take the free update to Windows 10

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I posted yesterday about a C++ error. I only got that once. I was trying the task later and no problem. For me, it's very hard to make sense of anything because yesterday was a very crappy day. First an error msg from VS, then VS doesn't open, then I uninstall and re-install it, it still doesn't open, then I see the Forum msg and run the hot fix, it works, then I get that C++ error which crashes VS, then my secondary hard drive doesn't work, and then my computer doesn't work (won't boot up)! Wow!
After much stress and fooling around it is working now - I discovered the windows boot sector had got corrupted. But while my bios sees the second hard drive Windows says it is inaccessible. VS is working again. But yesterday I noted that trying to output a MOV file created from an MP4 via Share led to VS outputting AVI files (anyone else want to try that?). A few days ago before the mess, that didn't happen - I was successful. And an interesting find today was opening projects that use video stored on my second drive and finding out that VS doesn't seem to want to do its automatic linking of clips in this situation. It often works fine, I find. But now I have to link each d!*$ clip individually.
So I am having my disk checked out and will replace it as necessary. Then linking won't be an issue. And the snow keeps on coming!
(My Quicktime is new I believe - Version 7.7.4.)

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Hi. I am having the same problem. I have NOT installed Windows 10. I still have Windows 7. I have not been working on a project since December. When I tried to open VS ProX8, nothing happens. I have the same problem with ProX5, which I still have on my computer. So today I removed ProX8 and reinstalled it. Still won't open. Then I downloaded all the patches. I started loading Boris patch (the oldest patch) first and it did not accept either my Key or my email address. I think they want you to load the oldest patch/upgrade first and continue up to adding the most recent one. I have tried to Chat with Corel and no one chats right now. The emails I have received from Corel says they are having a higher than normal ticket volume. I think a lot of people are having this problem. I am guessing that an automatic Windows update did something. Or maybe this is a plot to get me to switch to Windows 10!
MikeA says the Windows boot sector got corrupted?? I have no clue how to check and fix. I guess I'll search for that on my computer...Darn.

Checking http://howto.corel.com/en/c/VideoStudio ... nd_Updates, the latest patch/update is "Corel VideoStudio X8 Service Pack 3 (Released: 2015-11-30)". Where does one find out about available hotfixes including readme files? Thanks.BrianCee wrote:Corel have issued a hotfix for Version X8 - here - - - http://dwnld.videostudiopro.com/updates ... tFix_2.exe

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Windows 10 isn't really an option for me. I personally view it as a kludge of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 with a hefty dose of spyware (sorry telemetry) thrown in for "free". Obviously "anonymous" has a different meaning at Microsoft - a unique machine ID with files uploaded to One Drive combined with this "anonymous" data isn't exactly anonymous in my opinion. Throw in a whole load of adverts that I don't want while I'm working and the concept that I'll have to pay for the "free" upgrade after a year, and then again in another year, and again... Bye, bye Microsoft.
If Corel's response to this is to upgrade to Windows 10 or buy the latest version to replace a version that is only two years old then I'm going to start looking elsewhere. Sorry Corel - that's poor. Ulead didn't do that.
Has anyone tried running VS in WINE yet?

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
My problem has been fixed.
I use windows 7 Pro and I had the same problem.
I'm using Corel VideoStudio X5 and X6
I only uninstalled 2 windows updates.
KB312587 and KB3126593
I found that BOTH had to be uninstalled.
I have since HID the 2 subject KB Updates. Hopefully, they will not return.
Regards, Anthony

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
You guys rock!!! I removed the 2 updates & my V5 pro works again!
Do you know when V9 will be available in the US?
And is there a 64 bit version?
I'm running Windows 7 pro 64 bit (16 gig ram) so I guess it makes sense to get the 64 bit version? Correct?

I will confirm that uninstalling the two updates (the hotfix mentioned above) works for X5.
