Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Hello
Corel have decided not to issue any hotfixes for X6 on the grounds that it is a very old and unsupported version of Videostudio
please read this topic - - http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 31#p325077
where you will find fixes that worked for some people - hopefully you will be one of those
I am not sure about your statement that X6 is the latest version that will run on Vista - many members here have X6 working on later versions of Windows than that - and I have X6 running on Windows 10

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Rather than going the Apple route, which will limit the number of editing programs available to you, spend any of your budget on updating your PC. As a guide, Corel supply a "minimum" specification for a new/updated PC - see their web site. (I gave a printout of this to my dealer to supply a new PC with a better spec)
Then you can invest in X9 (or this year's latest offering - they seem to come once a year around February - May)
A decent PC will give you so much more flexibility. For example, I use two video screens, one for the main library and timelines and the second for the preview window which is now full screen size. I can really study the video on the second screen rather than squinting at the preview window on the combined "Edit" layout.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Great comments! I'm sure to digest them and they'll help with the decision making.
Ok, no hotfixes for X6.
I did find, when digging deeper and deeper into this, a post that said to look at the "event viewer" to see what happened. The faulting module was Kernel32.dll. I just found another post here that had a download to change the .dll version of X6. I'll give that a try. Do you know what this "faulting module" issue is relative to launching X6?
One other "deeper" action to try was suggested to disable the DEP for VideoStudio X6. I did this but it didn't help anything. Enable it again??
I know there's got to be a way to get this running on my Vista machine. You keep suggesting and I'll keep trying!

Hi Mark
Although no hot fix some users found their own fix.
Did you read the post mentioned by Brian and a reference to MUIHelper
Here is another link
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 40#p332761
My only doubt is if it will work with Vista?

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Hi. I'm trying to re-install V7 onto my computer which now runs Windows 10 but the setup.exe program won't run. I've seen postings about the effect of Windows updates, and have tried the hotfixes but they won't run till it's installed. Any suggestions, please?

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Hi Kestrel1000
And welcome to the forums
First as far as I know the hotfix for the windows update was intended for Windows 7 platform, I do not think it was needed for Windows 10.
Are you trying to install the disc version or the download version.
Which installation file are you trying to install, I have two exe files, the program at 2 gb + and the bonus files at 1.4 Gb
How far does the installation get, what errors do you see.
When running the EXE file its content are extracted and saved here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7
It is these files that are used to install the program to here:-
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X7
As the first attempt to install the program I would run the cleanup tool to see if it finds any file remnants
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847
Then try another install, right click the exe file for Run as Administrator

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Thanks, Trevor
I'm trying to run from a copy I downloaded when I first installed.
The setup.exe file is 2.828Gb
Autorun works and produces the menu but when I try to run setup from there, or from File Explorer, a dialog box flashes up for a second then disappears and nothing happens. I've tried running it as Administrator, and with various compatibility settings. Corel say they no longer support this version, but its a good app and only three years old.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Corel Videostudio Ultimate 2018 stopped loading several weeks ago. I've been online with Tech which uninstalled and reinstalled
doing temp file clean up and other things I couldn't follow. Still Videostudio will not load.
I've uninstalled it and reinstalled as Trial Version and that won't load.
I assume this is caused by Windows 10 updates but I don't know for sure.
I am stuck without my Video creating/editing program that I have loved to use.
I've appealed to Microsoft but have yet to hear.
Am I alone in this? The Corel Tech did not think so.

Well you are obviously not alone larrygood - witness the 262 posts above - have you read through the whole topic - it is my impression that most of the people who had problems have solved them in one way or another - maybe a read through would find a solution for you

Thanks. I believe the tech person who took over (remotely) my computer did all the suggested things
to no avail. I will try the cleanup tool for the 3rd time and reinstall.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
There can be many reasons why a Windows update can cause a program to stop working. Often it is some subtle change the M$ has introduced and the software writers have wanted to get around an issue in an earlier version.
I can definitely say that my copy of VS 2018 has continued to work on my Windows 10 Laptop at this time. I would, therefore, suspect that the issue may be something else on your computer.
There are a few options, each will be annoying in its own right.
The last option will be beyond some people and is fraught with the potential for things going wrong. If you've never done this before, get help.
I would also recommend installing Windows on a spare drive first. Install some of your software, especially VS 2018, and see whether it all works. This way you can always put the original drive back in should you have missed something.
Of course do install your AV software immediately after installing Windows, then run the Windows updates before you go any further.
If you ask someone else to reinstall Windows for you, most won't install and test your software.

- Uninstall, then reinstall VS 2018
- Uninstall VS 2018 using the clean-up tool, then reinstall it
- Backup all the on your computer, ensure that you have a list of all the programs installed, a copy of their installation files and their respective license keys, then reinstall Windows
