Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?

Hi

have just found a cheap (ish) solution

Contacted Corel via web chat explained problem X5 wont open and I have tried to delete updates to the last point X5 had opened . I was offered an upgrade to X9 , which I don't want however I was offered it at £42.74 a good price I would say , however again I stated that when I purchased the X5 part of they payment would go to r&d or this product ( patches and upgardes etc) as well as newer versions of the X series
This haggling brought the price to £38.24 the £00.24 puzzled me ' am I paying VAT on this?' yes you are , the reply . only this in a upgrade I don't want and then having to pay VAT on top!!! .. err let me speak to a superviser and get back to you......... how about £11.25 (including vat) as a one off offer ( could have taken the insurance for two years at £5. however didn't) .... I will get my card....

I now have upgarde to X9 AND ALSO ..... free download of NewBlue - Film Effects ( £79..) FREE

Thank you, thank you! Amazing this trick of saving a copy via Notepad ensuring ANSI encoding works! I do not understand it but I can confirm it works. Now my VS Pro X6 is working again without removing any Win7 updates.

Please let me clarify:

1. You must not make any changes at all. Just SAVE it. This is the trick!
2. For 64bit--> C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6\
For 32bit--> C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Videostudio Ultimate X6\
3. The advantage of the above procedure is that you do not have to replace the MUIhelper.dll of X7 version to that of X6 version.

Thank you so much, GeoVa, for the elegant solution. I don't understand how it could possibly work, but seemingly it does! Both VS ProX6 and ScreenCap X6 will now open in Win7 Ultimate 64bit. If it's still stable in a couple of days I'll try re-enabling Windows Update and see what happens.

Out of curiosity while I still had the MUIHelper.dll and MUIHelperNEW.dll files open my desktop I decided to compare their properties. The original version has a Digital Signature tab while the "NEW" version does not. Also under the Details tab, the "NEW" version seems to have stripped a good deal of information such as File Version, Product Name and Product Version. The Date Modified info has also been changed. Would any of this been enough to make the difference? Not that it really makes any difference, as long as it fixes the problem.

I have Video Studio Pro x8 on my laptop and encountered (and easily fixed this problem) . I have now installed X5 on my desktop (again Windows 7) and it won't open. OK, I thought, I'll just delete and hide updates kb3126587 and kb3126593, which I did, and still it won't open............any thoughts?

I've had no other bad side effects so far. But I couldn't resist Corel's 85% discount offer VSPro x9 so now I have both versions installed. Just make sure you set a current System Restore point before you make any changes, just in case.

For what its worth I am running windows 7 upto date with all auto updates installed.
X5 and X6 have the MUIHelper.zip applied, taken from X7

X7 and X8 required the Hot Fix provided by Corel
X9 download has no issues, the disc / box version that now requires SP2.

Hi, I just wanted to create a project with my VideoStudio X8 Ultimate , today as I was using this version for several months trouble-free.
Following double-click the icon , a message appeared as " Another user is running Corel VideoStudio...."
I could not succeed to run it anyway and had a look at this web.
Following some experiences of users , I did the same and deleted 3 Windows updates as KB 3134814 , KB3126587 and KB 3126593 in Windows 7.
Then , I also installed the patch of hotfix for version X8 from Corel.
After restarting the computer, the problem still exists. How , can I solve it ?

Does this problem persist after re booting the computer.

First go to your Task Manager (CTRL+ Alt = Del)
View the process tab for vstudio.exe
Select and end process

Does the program run ok.

When you close the program give it a few seconds to actually close, trying to run straight away could cause this problem?

Yes, this problem persist after re booting the computer , as well.

Some things I would try…..

When you try to run the program does it do anything?
1 / Disconnect internet and try again.

2 / Go to
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8….maybe Pro
Double click “vstudio.exe” to see if program launches.

3/ Have you tried a re-install of the program.

First go to
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\18.0
Rename the 18.0 folder to “18.0_old” just as a back up
Then you may be able to reset the library.

Now try uninstalling the program.

Hi,
I disconnected internet and tried again. No result.
I have gone to C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 and double clicked “vstudio.exe” .
When I looked at Task Manager , it says the program is running. But , nothing on the screen.

Can you try to re-install the HotFix for CVSX8

It may give an error “version cannot be determined”, just means the file has been installed.
