I have the same setup as you (VS X6 & windows 7). I removed and Hid a third Windows 7 update (KB3140410) that was mentioned in a message earlier in this thread, and VS X6 now launches.

I found this post and uninstalled KB3126587 and KB3126593, turned off automatic windows upgrades and restarted my computer. Unfortunately, the program still won't open. I bought it as a download so don't have a disc to reinstall.
Any suggestions? I need a new computer soon and am trying to get everything in order before transferring over.
Sure hope someone out there can help!

If you bought it as a download, then the install files should be somwhere on your system or did you delete them? Did you not make copies of the downloaded files?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Uninstalling the third update did the trick. I'm the most ignorant person on this forum so I have no idea how to "hide" the updates, but I did change the settings so that I won't get automatic updates but will get to choose.
Again, I am very grateful.

In Windows Update : In the list of available updates, right-click any update that you don’t want to see again, and choose Hide Update. If you later change your mind—or if you just want to see a list of the updates you’ve chosen to hide—on the main Windows Update page, click Restore Hidden Updates.

Well, I guess I'm just not understanding all that I've read on this forum about how to get Video Studio to run again.

My version is VS Pro X5. It will not open/run. However, it was working just fine a week or so ago.
-- I've tried running it as "Administrator."
-- I've removed the Windows Update (KB3140410) as somebody else on the forum mentioned. That scares me because I don't know what effect that will have upon my system security.
-- Rebooted system, etc.
-- Program will not run. It's not recognized in the Windows' "Task Manager" as a loaded, running application.

EDITED APRIL 1, 2016
I just found the forum Sticky about this issue. It appears to have good information but, I guess my "VS X5" version won't get a patch from Corel. Very typical.
I now have to go back and delete two more Windows' KB files, then hide all three of the ones mentioned in the Sticky. I hope it works.

EDITED AGAIN, APRIL 1, 2016 - 1:31pm (pacific)
I finally got X5 to open and run again. However, after I did that, I noticed that when I opened the program, there was a notice of an update to it provided by Corel (inside the program). It updated it from patch 1 to patch 3. Now, I'm wondering if I can restore the MS Updates again safely, without losing access to VS again? I'll try then reply here. Too much guesswork! lol

EDITED AGAIN, APRIL 1, 2016 - 2:25pm (pacific)
Looks like I'm SOL again. Corel won't fix my paid-for version of VS X5 PRO/Ultimate. They want me to spend more money to upgrade to their newer software, like everybody else. Microsoft is doing the same thing except they are even more tricky.

Anyway, even after Corel sent those updates to my version of VS X5, the updates did NOT solve the problem. So, I'm now without Video Studio after paying for it! It's a choice between crippling Corel's inept Video Studio program or my computer system's security vulnerabilities! Corel loses this battle because they have "thrown me under the bus" with no fix for the software I bought from them. :(

EDITED APRIL 9, 2016
I finally went ahead and purchase VS Pro X9 Ultimate (at their special discount price). So far, it seems to be working okay. At least, no more fiddling with MS Update files (with X9). My X5 is still crippled with the problem.

I never had much problem with all my Corel software nor upgrade except some little fancy things.
Another problem with VSP X5-6-7-8-9 is we can't recuperate our library, it takes me more than 3 hours to place everything i want in it ,I don't understand why they can'tdo a file to Import/Export our own library .

and what did they tell you to do that cured your problem, that info may help others with the same issues.

Are you able to provide a link to the Clean-Up file Corel provided? Again may come in useful.

Thanks Trevor

Can I join this forum? I recently tried to use Video Studio Pro X6 for the first time for about 9 months and found that it would not open. After reading the posts on this forum I removed the three windows updates, removed the installed Video Studio programmed, shut the computer down, rebooted and then re-installed the programme but it still does not open. I do not really want to upgrade as I just use the programme occasionally and having got used to it I do not want to change to another programme. Any advice?

Many thanks

You do not mention hiding the updates so that they did not re-install on the re-boot

that is no longer necessary any rate as an alternative has been found - please read both posts in this topic - http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58892

Please note a very easy solution:
It works on version X6 (I do not try on other older versions)
Here is the way:

STEPS:
1. Go to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6\

2. Find the file MUIHelper.dll and copy it to Desktop and open it with notepad (right mouse click --> open with--> choose notepad)
Now, with notepad save it as MUIHelperNEW.dll (Note - Encoding ANSI)

3. Go to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6\MUIHelper.dll, and RENAME the MUIHelper.dll to MUIHelperORIGINAL.dll - (in a case something goes wrong)

4. Now, copy the EDITED file MUIHelperNEW.dll (from step 2), from Desktop to C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6\, and RENAME it to MUIHelper.dll

5. That's it!
Now the CVSX6 is working properly without a need to uninstall any windows updates!

but you haven't told us what changes to make to the .dlll - what editing did you do ??

I also have a problem in that there is no C\program files (X86) folder on your 32bit machine - that is only on a 64bit computer - but it is the .dll in the C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Videostudio X? which needs replacing on both 32 and 64 bit computers

no need for your procedure any rate - I have already provided the latest MUIhelper.dll in this topic :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59131

many people have found it works on all older versions - if you missed it previously I'll attach it here again

Hello
Please let me clarify:

1. You must not make any changes at all. Just SAVE it. This is the trick!
2. For 64bit--> C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6\
For 32bit--> C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Videostudio Ultimate X6\
3. The advantage of the above procedure is that you do not have to replace the MUIhelper.dll of X7 version to that of X6 version.
