If you" hide" the uninstalled updates you can then return to auto updates and the offending files will not be reinstalled. But if you are worried, wait until you have finished your project-but all that time you are not getting possibly important security fixes to your pc

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I got the error message: "another user is running VS X9, please close and try again." The 312 KB's were eliminated, but the problem persisted.
I then eliminated the KB3140410 update and presto, it started. I installed from the VSX9 disc. I also had a problem before this one of not being able to uninstall from an external SSD drive and the uninstaller icon disappeared from the Windows 7 uninstall screen. What a pickle! However, I found that running the following from the Windows 7 Start Up box opened the program and I could proceed arriving at the point where it would not start as stated above.
(C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X9\Setup)\{EE80DAA0-0071-475C-A222-F1782888FC55}\SetupARP.exe /arp
------------Path to setup-------------------.
In my case C: was H:without the Program Files.
The moral of the story is DO NOT INSTALL ON AN EXTERNAL DRIVE!
It is terrible to think that Microsoft can cripple a program as it has this one with its updates. A catch 22 for sure! I feel sorry for the average user who would be dismayed. Now, with Windows 10, and being at Microsoft's mercy, I wonder what lies ahead for us in other situations.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Glad to find the mention of a hotfix for VS X7 - I was going completely spare. I thought from an earlier posting that Corel were not going to provide a hotfix for X7. I removed Windows updates KB3126587 and KB3129593 but still X7 did not run. I looked to download X8 for which a hotfix appeared available, but in Australia local vendors do not seem to stock disk copies and the only download (from respectable sites) that I could find for Australia (unlike the UK and US) was for X9 (the only one available on the Corel site). I downloaded the trial version of X9 but it did not run (my processor may not be advanced enough). So basically I thought I was completely stuffed - I dont want to buy a new computer just now to run X9, I cant get a download of X8, and X7 doesnt run (VS 12 from several years ago however runs - I was reduced to using that ). I thought I'd have to move to some other video editing software.
Luckily I (almost randomly) came across the mention on this site of the hotfix for X7 - installed it and X7 runs (has done for a day, at least). Hooray! I'll probably get some sleep tonight.
Thank you moderators for doing the job of keeping us informed, that Corel ought to be doing. I can see no mention of the issue on the VideoStudio website, even under patches and updates. Why not?

Actually it is there - for anyone else looking for the hotfix - its at http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/ (if you're en) > Support > Knowledgebase (NOT Patches and Updates) > VideoStudio Pro - Patches and Updates.
WHY its not listed under the first mention of Patches and Updates in the main menu rather than under Knowledgebase I cant think, but then clearly I dont think like Corel.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Hi Jim
The patch to cure the windows issue is listed as the top item in Patches and Updates as Brian’s link clearly shows, this is the most direct approach.
The problem with the Corel site is a navigation one and depending on how you access updates you may find the older server details.
The Knowledge Base has been recently updated and does show the Windows fix, which for Corel is pretty quick, congratulations there…
But as I say there are some issues searching the Corel site, where you may find older details.
There are details at the top of the Video Studio forum regarding patches and the windows update issue, view the Announcements section.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I'm using VS X6 with Windows 7 Home Premium and have encountered the VS launch problem. I removed and Hid Windows updates KB3126587 and KB3126593, but that did not solve the problem. Brian's Corel link points to a hot fix for VS X7, but there is not a hot fix listed for VS X6 to solve the launch problem. Does anyone know whether the X7 fix will work for X6? And if not, is my only option to upgrade to X9? I really want to stay on Windows 7. So does X9 run OK on Windows 7?

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I just removed and Hid a third Windows 7 update (KB3140410) that was mentioned in a message earlier in this thread, and VS X6 now launches. So I'm now good to go, at least until Microsoft downloads another crippling Windows 7 update. I would still like to know whether VS X9 can run on Windows 7.

For what its worth I am running CVSX9 64 bit on Windows 7 without problems, although I only use standard camcorder footage.
cannot speak for all video types, Iphones and tablets do seem to cause problems, but there are so many varieties of Mov and Mp4 that some don't work so well?

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
Also struggled a bit. ScreenCap was also just not opening either on Windows 7.
I installed the hotfix for VS7 (link is pinned at top of this board) and sorted mine out. phew.
My other machine is running Win10 and VS 8.5 but not had issues.

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I don't know about everyone else, but as an IT professional and software developer for over 45 years, I feel it is incumbent upon me to do as much trouble shooting as I can before I yell "Uncle" and call for support. One reason, is that I don't want them to waste my time any more than I want to waste their time. In this case, I went through uninstalling and re-installing Videostudio Ultimate 8x. I then restored Winows. Still no result. I did all of this over two afternoons. So finally, I "chat" with customer support. They say they have to open a ticket and wait up to 24 hours for a response. Only later Googling and finding out about this forum, did I discovered that Corel published a Hot Fix on February 11th. I downloaded it, ran it and it worked. My question and angst with Corel, is if they knew there was a problem and developed a fix, why would they not send a notification to their registered customers? Why would the first level Customer Service not be aware of this fix? I love this product, but the culture of their CS really sucks!

I was working on a project and now i'm stop and can't work anymore its frustrating and don't understand why Corel don't take seriously this problem , cause they respond me that another one will contact me and it seems as your comments that its a large problem and the only way to do is wait ?????????? is it possible for a so much good compagnie to not correspond better with their customers,
I never had much problem with all my Corel software nor upgrade except some little fancy things.
Another problem with VSP X5-6-7-8-9 is we can't recuperate our library, it takes me more than 3 hours to place everything i want in it ,I don't understand why they can'tdo a file to Import/Export our own library .
Thanks
On march 30 I resolved my problem, Corel staff send me a little software to remove completely my X9 and reinstall. Now it work well except that it took a lot of time to open and many times I have to try it 2 times before it open I'm scare that I will have the same problem soon , someone have again the same problem? and a solution of why on win10 it take so much to open or crash

Re: Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?
I'm late in discovering this problem - tried to open my Pro x6 and got nothing. Tried to find resolution to problem and got the message APP crash. I have Windows 7.
I found this post and uninstalled KB3126587 and KB3126593, turned off automatic windows upgrades and restarted my computer. Unfortunately, the program still won't open. I bought it as a download so don't have a disc to reinstall.
Any suggestions? I need a new computer soon and am trying to get everything in order before transferring over.
Sure hope someone out there can help!
