Video Studio Won't Open -- After Windows Update?

Hi All
My day is not off to a good start.... Windows did automatic update overnight, and when I re-started my computer, Video Studio X7 fails to open.... I can see the program files are all still there. I click on the icon and it spins and just stops... I have older versions of Video Studio on my computer and they don't open either. Any one have any thoughts? I was 3/4 through a project... yikes.

Hi,

I have the same problem. Video Studio 5,6,7 and 8 will not open after the huge Windows upgrade was installed. Did the "send information to Microsoft" thing, but not holding my breath for anything...

If you need a solution NOW the only possibility I have is to use System Restore and take your computer back to a time before the update - then do not allow any updates until the root cause has been found.

I have been on w corel all morning. They are aware of the issue. They have a patch for x8 users..not yet for x7and lower which is absurd. They took control of my computer and are in the process of trying to delete the update that may have caused the issue -- unfortunately thhey are not certain which one! I guess their engineers know (they made the patch) but the support team wasnt sure.
Waiting for windows to reconfigure on restart (taking forever) and praying.

I guess rolling back to yesterday was an option but they thought to delete the particular update was better.

Last resort is that i have x8 that i can install (hadnt had time yet as its always a pain to configure and set up my libs) but if i have to I will -- just will be harder without being able to go back to 7 and grab things.

Ok good news!! My windows reconfigured after about an hour (whew!) and windoes restarted and X7 relaunched successfully!

The windows updates that we removed are

kb3134814

We removed this first and it was unsuccessful on its own

Then we removed

Kb3126587 and kb3126593

One of these 2 did the trick -- or who knows, all 3 together??

For now... I've disabled automatic updates and will download 9 as soon as my current project is complete.

They are "absolutely not" at this point creating a patch for other versions -- which is really unfair as it forces everyone to upgrade. Im happy to upgrade but on my own time and i personally like having older versions on my computer!

But im happy at least for today im back in business

There was also a Windows update for Win 10 overnight. But I am happy to report that VS X9, X8 and X7 (all that I have on this computer) are all still working. It would have been more problematical for Win 10 users if they didn't, since updates are compulsory and pretty well automatic for Win 10. The only option would be to do as Brian suggested and do a System Restore to before the point of the update. But that would probably lead to a loop of having the update reassert itself if you turned the computer off (which is when the updates are installed).

Using X7 Pro and also experienced 'no load' on two machines. Each had just gotten an MS Windows (7, and 7 Pro) update on Feb 10 of something like 19 files.

I plodded my way uninstalling all of them, and found X7 Pro back working on both machines.

brian -- support was pretty clear they werent going to make a fix for other versions, which is kind of unfair. You either defer windows updates or upgrade your corel -- maybe they will reconsider

As for updates -- look under windows update in your control panel. You can delete from there.
When you delete you must restart your computer. Don't panic on reatart when wondows says its reconfiguring. mine took about an hour to reboot successfully. Also be sure to set your computer so that windows no longer does updates automatically. You will find that in updates in the control panel too.

Thank you every one, uninstalled the 3 updates, stopped auto updates, restarted and after a minute or two I am now working on VSX7. Next question- before I buy X8 Ultimate or 8.5 , are they about to bring a later version soon.Should there be other troubles, could a project started in X7 be completed in a newer version ?

Had a quick look on here on Amazon too.I think I have the specs to run X9, but it is not available in the UK until 26 Feb and there is no mention of a user guide.
