VideoStudio X9 - Pro's and CON's
Hi,
I know that eventually a lot of people will be using this version of the software. However, for any of the "early adopters" is there anything that we should know PRO or CON before we buy it? Some additional features are nice, but...

X9 just making it first crawls and you already looking for PRO & CON ? These are mainly subjective maters.jdowney wrote:Hi,

What a PRO to one is surly a CON to other. One thing for sure, X9 wont be perfect and surly will not solve all X8's culprits (or even X7's).
If it did so, there will not be XX next year.

Re: VideoStudio X9 - Pro's and CON's
I use the NewBlue Touchup filter on a lot of my projects, which has been notoriously slow on previous version. I was hoping X9 could improve on that but it has not. I compared its render speed to X8 on the same project and its is the same speed. So, if your looking for improvements there, it hasn't happened. Also, X9 has crashed three times already, whereas X7 and X8 were pretty solid.

One other important note, after installing X9, X7 and X8 on the same system both crash on startup. Grrrr.

Strange. All three work fine on my Windows 10 x64 computer.qtrim wrote:... after installing X9, X7 and X8 on the same system both crash on startup. Grrrr.
Back to the original question, the main "Pro" from Corel's point of view seems to be Multi-Camera Editing (MCE). But how many users out there have multiple cameras which they use often and together? So IMHO this would only be a "Pro" feature for a limited number of people.

Re: VideoStudio X9 - Pro's and CON's
For "me", multicam is a huge PRO. I often shoot with more than one camera. This will speed up editing a lot. You can add a default transition between the clips as you edit. There is so much more to the multicam editor than just multicam editing.... did I say that right?
The only thing that will speed it up is maybe a faster computer. But that too depends on how the plugin was coded. And I think Touch Up is a plugin 6 years old, and probably is still a 32bit non-optimized plugin.
As for crashing.... X9 hasn't yet. I find it very stable so far in using it.
The problems with NewBlue (or any plugin for that matter) is related to the plugin creator, not VS. So, for faster rendering, contact NewBlue and ask "why so slow". Also, if you are "touching up" a clip, think how much is actually going on with each and every frame. It will not be fast.qtrim wrote:I use the NewBlue Touchup filter on a lot of my projects, which has been notoriously slow on previous version. I was hoping X9 could improve on that but it has not. Re: VideoStudio X9 - Pro's and CON's
I installed it last night, and played with it for a few hours. My conclusions so far, are as follows.
pros:
* interface is generally faster and more responsive.
* rendering seems faster than 8.5
* multi cam automatic syncing worked in the few test cases i tried it with
cons:
* download took a while because the application is larger. that's to be expected though, as more functionality requires more code.

Re: VideoStudio X9 - Pro's and CON's
New Blue 32 bit plugins will not work with VS 64 bit, there is a post maybe about a year ago with a link to the New Blue 64 bit plugins for VS, of course, this is only relevant if you have purchased versions of New Blue 32 bit packagesTonyP wrote: The only thing that will speed it up is maybe a faster computer. Thanks Robert. I don't have X7 or X8. The plugins I bought from NB are already included.

Re: VideoStudio X9 - Pro's and CON's
VideoStudio 9 is INSANELY slow.
I have 64 bit windows 10 with 8GB RAM . . . I am rendering a 40 minute movie and so far it's been going for SIX HOURS, and it's at 58%. In Version 8 this took less than an hour.
Am going to try to contact them, I guess, but am seriously considering going back to version 8.

It's a matter of you output settings and your filters (NB touch ups??).ajg2001 wrote:VideoStudio 9 is INSANELY slow.

If you think X8 is quicker, simply save your project as X8 vsp and load it there.

Re: VideoStudio X9 - Pro's and CON's
"Insanely slow".... curious as to what quantitative testing you have done and the numerical results of the test. I agree, no video should have taken that long to render, but there are those of us here that have done sample testing and rendering with a 4K video leading to results that would not agree with what you posted.
It would be best to list everything. I am guessing everything is exactly the same in X8 and X9, from Preference, Project, and export settings.

Re: VideoStudio X9 - Pro's and CON's
Hi,
Still thinking about purchasing X9 (have all the previous versions), but given the current situation with the windows update issue(s); does anyone think Corel may offer the software are a further discount to try to drum up more interest in X9...
Currently, I have a 25% off offer that puts the X9 software at $59.99 until March 1st ...

Download the trial version and see if it works. Also, you can buy it from Corel. Don't like it, get your money back. 30 days.

I downloaded the trial version. I know there are limitations but I need to know the below before I purchase.
>cannot edit pro x7 projects even though they have switched to x9. they don't open.
>will x9 render to MPEG2? it's not listed in the share menu. I need to use that format for Public Access TV.
Thanks
