VideoStudio X8 Ultimate and Corel

Post by Grenpara »

Hello,

Well I purchased Corel Videostudio X8 Ultimate as it came with a ton of addons.
I looked forward to the software so i went to install.
So here is where the story starts.

I installed the software and noticed it thru it onto drive c:, but drive c: is an ssd so space is limited.
I then uninstalled it and tried to install on drive e:, and VideoStudio installed on drive e: but all the addons still went to c:.
I contacted Corel who said addons must go on drive c: and there is no way to change it.

So then i contacted the addon maker who said their items can go on anydrive.
i asked the how and the explained how to do it so i uninstalled the addons and tried to install on drive e:.
Problem now is the need a serial key and corel provides one only for their installer and it does not work for the addons.

Well I thought I would contact Corel and get the separate addon keys.
Well Corel responds saying they only supply key for their installer and wont give the addon keys as their installer encrypts/ decrypts keys for addon.
So for weeks I have been trying to get the keys so I can install the addons on drive e: but with no success.
Even the addon maker wont tell me how to get the keys from the registry so I can install addons manually on e: drive..

Well i purchased Corel in part because of the addons.
And since I was never told anywhere before I purchased product that most items have to go on c: drive the software is of little use to me.
So I again contacted both Corel and addon maker and both can't/won't help.

Well i had enough so i uninstalled videostudio X8 and the addons and am now trying to return them.
I have a request in for refund and hope it is accepted.
But after spending weeks trying to get software installed and working I am now turned off Corel for good.
Customer service is lacking and its almost scripted on what they will say and when.

For me from this point on I will never buy a Corel Product again even if it costs a penny.
I also like other with advise others of the risks about Corel products and lack of help to resolve issues.

Thanks for your time.

Gren, unfortunately indeed few addons files will always go to C but most can be installed on other drives.
The way to do so is installation one by one from their folders on the disk.
Having said that the program libraries cache itself will always be on C ,

Hello,

Thanks for the fast reply.

Well as said I got Videostudio on e: now it was only the addons that were forced on c:.
The addon maker said I can install on any drive but its Corel that is forcing them on c: and there is no way to change it.

Anyways I have again requested a refund and have already uninstalled and deleted the items.

I am fed up with Corel not just from this issue but several others.
I have since Purchased all the Cyberlink software as i used them once a long time ago.

Its sad as Corel cared about making customers happy in the past and now they could care less what a customer thinks or if things work or not.
Anyways I give up with them and once my other corel software gets to old i will change to other brand.

Have a great day.

I too would like the ability to install on different hard drives. But that also brings up other problems for "most" consumers. They'll use external drives that can change drive letters causing the program not to work. Add a USB thumb drive before turning on your USB external hard drive, and everything will have a different drive letter assigned to it.
Then the average consumer will be calling tech support wondering what happened...
With even SSD prices dropping (1TB going for under $300), I don't think it is totally unreasonable of Corel not to, at the moment support having the product install over multiple drives.

I'm still using a mechanical drive for that reason. Next computer build later this year will be with SSD drive for system and mechanical for storage.
