Re: Cleanup Tool for X2
Hi Tim,
There is something funny about that.
I upgraded to Windows 10 after a forced restore of Windows 7, so started on an empty drive.
Installed PSP X7 and later X8.
Yet an X2 and an X6 folder shows in the Corel one, alongside the X7 and X8 one. I have used all PSP versions from X2 onwards on this computer, but never installed anything but X7 and X8 after the upgrade to Win10.
Makes me wonder if you can just leave your X2 and install X8 alongside it.
Unfortunately Corel won't allow you to buy X8 as an upgrade anymore, unless you upgrade from X6.
so you have to buy the full version.

Yes, many users have differend versions of PSP installed side by side on their computer.Zantara wrote: Makes me wonder if you can just leave your X2 and install X8 alongside it.

Re: Cleanup Tool for X2
Hello Jean-Luc,
I always have two versions going. The most current and the one before.
Until the Win 10 upgrade I also had X2 running.
But Win 10 doesn't support X2 anymore, only X4 and upwards.
Never wanted to take the risk.
So I found it peculiar to find an X2 folder on my system alongside an X6 folder. Two versions that are not installed.

Hi Zantara;
Thanks for the input.
You said you started on an empty drive. Did you clean the drive by formatting & letting Windows do it's thing on the new install or did you install windows & PSP on a new drive ? If not a new drive then it's probably remnants left over from a previous install. Another possibility is if you had installed programs on a second connected drive. If that was a brand new drive then it is peculiar indeed.

Re: Cleanup Tool for X2
Hi Tim,
I used the Recovery option, my computer came with.
Letting it do its thing.
That brings it back to its factory settings and I went from there.
Upgraded to Win 10 before installing software.
But more than possible files were left in the recovery process as it installs on the existing C-drive.
Never had PSP installed on another drive.
I was just surprised to find the X2 and X6 folders. I only worked with X6 for a short time.
Too unstable and bought X7 on the day I was notified of its launch.
When my computer went belly-up and I had to do the restore, I only had X7 installed.
Ah well...the mysterious ways of Microsoft and Corel...

Hi Zantara;
"The mysterious ways of Microsoft & Corel" sure does keep us guessing. Most system recovery options don't remove user stuff unless there's an additional option to remove everything.

.
PSP 7 (Jasc) and PSP X2 are running on Windows 10.
We had a discussion on the French forum about PSP compatibility on Windows 10:

Re: Cleanup Tool for X2
@Tim..
Ah...a system recovery lets your system go back to a previous date you can choose, when all was well with the (Windows) world.
It will keep all your files and folders, but loses the last bits of software or updates you installed after the system recovery date you choose.
What I mean is the Recovery option that comes with new computers/laptops. Not sure they still do that with Windows 10 computers/laptops.
You have the Recovery on a different partition and you burn a copy on DVD (about 7 of them for Windows 7 and bits).
You use that and everything you've had on your main drive is wiped clean and then the factory settings are reinstalled. You will then have a system the way it was when you bought it.
Like the old reformat and then re-installing Windows. Just that it is an automated process with the Recovery option and it installs the bits that comes with your brand of computer.
But it will ask if you are sure to format the drive.
That's what I did, so I (wrongly?) presumed everything was wiped off my hard drive. Hence my surprise to find the X2 and X6 folders.
@Jean-Luc.
Thank you for the link. My French is almost non-existent, but have been able to work out what versions are compatible.
My experience with my own computer and the feed-back I get from my users, is that compatibilty is willy-nilly.
Depending on what else you have on your system. Bit like the current SP1 for X8. Causes havoc with some systems, no problems at all with others.
