After I upgraded from x7 to x8, but kept x7 on my system, I can no longer import a photo into either the timeline or the library in either x7 or x8. I get the crash, videostudio has stopped working.
windows 7 64 bit, all patches, etc. Standard jpeg photos, nothing unusual about them. It happens 100% of the time, doesn't matter if into a new, empty project, or an existing project.

Re: x7 and x8 now crash when importing photo
OK, I found out (sort of) the reason: some jpegs must have something strange about them that confounds Videostudio, even though all my photo programs (and I have several) read and process the jpeg with no problem. So I opened one of the problem photos in Picasa, simply saved it under a new name, and presto, VideoStudio now has no difficulty.

Hi
It may be a problem with the exif details, extra details added by the camera could cause problems for video editors, re-saving the files as you have done may remove some exif details.
Did you set the camera to add extra details to the images.? GPS location, date taken etc?
Some images using Progressive rather than Baseline can also cause problems
