I think that there is a way to get a WMV movie to play in a streaming fashion from a link on a web page by changing the .wmv file extension to something else. Anyone know what this would be?

ASF is another MS format, and I believe the MS media player format is fairly indifferent to which extension you use. AFAIK.
E.G. WMV files will start playing before download finishes, you can easily test it e.g. from my website

Click on the icon, the file will buffer and start playing as soon as your connection allows...
Somebody technical is going to say "it isn't a real streaming format", but it makes no difference in practice as far as I've seen. If you don't have a small delay for buffering, any software is going to have a problem when the next packets arrive a bit slower!
