Cannot capture files from camera

Post by michael menner »

Am running a new HP Desktop, and have downloaded Videostudio X8, download is successful (it appears to be)...
When I go to capture video from camera I get an error...’Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or no device is connected’ (Sony camera HDR-XR350)

I was advised by support to repair the installation, but this failed as after doing what was advised, I was to install Videostudio updates which I did, however more error reports....’The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate.’

Can someone advise me as what the problem is? I have been to support so many times and seem to be getting nowhere!

Hi Michael

and welcome to the forums

First the message ’The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate.’
Is the programs way of telling us that the service pack is already installed.

But did this message come from the program from an auto update or did you try installing SP3 manually.

Camera

Does your camera record to SD card. :?:
If so then do not use Capture tab.

Connecting the camera to the pc should show as a removable Drive on Computer
From there you should be able to find the video files, copy and paste to your pc.
If its AVCHD then navigate to the Stream folder

If the camera came with its own software use that to transfer video from camera to PC. Then import to timelines from PC.
Right Click timeline for Insert Video

Some more info on web site may help.

In order for your computer to see the camera in windows file explorer you may need to go into the camcorders menu and select whichever of the following your camera shows

EITHER "Mass Storage" OR "USB Mode" OR "VCR mode"
