Mercalli does not save

Post by mikeandm »

Hi,
I have just updated to version x8.5 and now have a problem with Mercalli. In use it is working exactly the same as it did in version 7 with one big difference. When in the edit mode I do an analysis and it works fine. If I then move onto another clip and do a further analysis it wipes out all of the information for the previous clip although does a normal job with the next clip. I have done a test and run a clip with mercalli and then just saved that clip and the rendering works perfectly.
It seems to me that there is and overwrite instruction somewhere but I cannot find it.

When you apply Mercalli to one clip, move on to the next, and later go back to the first clip, do you play that in Edit mode or Project mode? It will only be in the latter mode that the effect of the filter will be seen.

Mike, it's a known bug.
Are your two clips splits from the same original longer one?

***Sorry, my mistake.
I just retested this here on 18.606 and Marcely worked OK on 2 splits form a longer clip

Hi,
I am playing back the effect in project mode and it still has the problem.

The clips are taken from a single source, about 1 hours worth of video from a camera.

Hi Mikeandm

Can you please go to the Help menu and check for Updates
I assume that will return “No Updates Available.”

The problem is only when trying to apply Mercalli more than once to the same video file.
For most users is not a problem, certainly my x8 programs work ok, not sure if the difference is the Windows platform, I am using Windows 7?

As a workround you could convert the clip to a new video file, replace clip with new version then apply Mercalli

How…………

Cut video into sections creating separate clips
Select say “clip 1”
File – Save Trimmed Video, will render / create a new file saved to the working folder (render should be relatively quick.)
A thumbnail will be placed in the library.
Drag thumbnail to timeline hover over “clip1” and press CTRL key for “Replace Clip" option then drop clip.
Now apply Mercalli

Repeat for other clips requiring Mercalli.

Hi Asik

Yep maybe for this issue, but to many things going wrong.
Increasing number of problems since early December.
Introduce Windows 10 then service packs required.
Windows Flash update caused problems
So many variables

I think its SP3, unfortunately its needed as I think SP2 messed up, then the hot fix?

Hi Trevor,
thanks for your reply. I have actually already done the save you suggested and it worked the bad bit is I am editing video that I took whilst driving around south and central America and so there are lots of bits that need stabilizing.
I would add that I was using videstudio x7 on my windows 10/64 with no problem at all. It seems to be only this upgrade.

Hi Mike

Yep that would make it a little awkward

If you think SP3 has caused this then try re-installing the program but do not install SP3.
Or are you able to install X7, no reason why you cannot have both programs installed, providing X7 works with W10.

It may be that SP3 is required to run the program on Windows 10, in which case you may have other problems. However if you have purchased VS 8.5 then that may be W10 friendly and SP 3 may not be needed other than other fixes that is supposed to provide.

Otherwise are you able to Stabilize the whole file, render the file to a new video,
Use new video to edit in project.

Think I am running out of ideas.
