blu ray disc not playing in player

Post by RobP_V8_Guy »

Hey everyone, got a bit of an issue. I burn a project file to a blu ray disc. The disc is created error free. When I put that disc into my sony blu ray player, it comes up with "unknow disc". I have created blu rays before with no issues. I was using videostudio pro x8 and windows 8.1 before my issues. The blu ray burner is also new, only burnt 10 blu ray discs but all with my old set up.

I have also created the blu ray folders and an image file on my computer. When I mount the image file and play it with vlc (media, open disc, select blu ray disc, select the mounted disc), everything plays just fine. My blu ray player is connected to the internet, and when I check for an update, it says the player is currently up to date.

If I put the blu ray disc I just burnt back into the computer. I can play it through vlc using these steps: media, open disc, select blu ray disc, select the mounted disc. If I select a chapter and when its playing the video, if I hit "next" , it comes up with an error, "Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:\'. Check the log for details." Not sure if thats just vlc problem trying to go back to dvd disc. But I can watch the whole disc without issues if I dont try to skip ahead.

Things that have changed since the last successful blu ray disc.
1. New hard drive
2. upgraded to videostudio ultimate x8.5
3. upgraded to windows 10
4. upgraded processor to i7
5. upgraded RAM to 16 gb

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I do not know if this is of any use to you but anyway, here goes. This is not Blue Ray related though.I have just installed a 4K Panasonic blue ray player and it would not play the narrative on DVD films.Well, it did but only just audible.I went through the settings on the player and changed them with the guidance of the user manual.I have a 5.1 speaker set up that is not digital audio.Check to see if your player is set up appropriately to play back in analogue sound,5.1 and not 7.1 etc and what ever else matches your equipment. What I have at the moment is a bit too much echo but I will have to try and sort this out later

Do you have any friends who have a BD player different from your Sony? If so, you might want to try your disc on their player. I'm suggesting this since in the past we often found that with DVDs, some higher end DVD players simply were more finicky about playing 'home made' discs. Sometimes it was even something as 'simple' as the brand of the disc blank, or even the colour of the dye used on it, which caused the problem. And the same sort of thing might be happening with Blu-Ray discs burnt at home.
