Applied VS X8 SP without getting X8.5
Is there a way to apply recent vs x8 service pack without updating to VS 8.5 (i don't want to update to mydvd, but want to keep current dvd support embedded in X8)?

Updating to 8.5 does not change the existing DVD creation. myDVD is basically a separate program

Re: Applied VS X8 SP without getting X8.5
You mean internal dvd/bd creation (with the bd plugin installed) is still working and it is not needed to use mydvd at all?
So what is the point of adding mydvd???

It's only for those who never bought the BD module with the original X8.

Hi
Nothing really to do with BD Addon although if you have that it will also work for MyDVD, installing does not affect the main program.
My DVD is a bit of a wizard, supposed to make burning discs easy for the inexperienced user.
I think it is a little confusing to use, easy to get things wrong.
If you want rid, uninstall via Programs and Features

I don't think so Ken - if you don't have the Blu-ray plug in - you don't get blu-ray in MyDVDKen Berry wrote:It's only for those who never bought the BD module with the original X8.
it's just a beginners wizard for creating DVD's

Aah! Thanks Brian. I wasn't aware of that. I should have known it wasn't just Corel being 'generous' and trying to rectify their IMHO silly decision to charge users for the original BD burning module!

Re: Applied VS X8 SP without getting X8.5
Thanks for all these answers, but i'm a little confused now
As compared to original X8 1st version, if i am ugrading to latest sp3, will i loose any functionnality?
I have bought the bd pluging in X8 so will i loose the internal dvd/bd functionnality internal to X8 original release with X8 sp3?
From some answers i could understand that mydvd could be uninstalled if desired. I have seen a similar approach with when i bought videostudio X3 that for 1 release used an external dvd application and this was not well integrated with the main app, and I disliked it's use at that time. I am still prefering the internal dvd app that got back in X4 until now...

Hi
Installing the BD plugin gives bluray functionality to the main program allowing you to burn bluray discs.
It also give the same function to My DVD allowing that program to burn Bluray discs.
The MyDVD is provided with SP3
Installing SP3 after installing the BD addon will not affect its function and BD will continue to work for Video Studio and indeed MyDVD.

The whole purpose of a service pack is to improve functionality and cure some problems - why on earth would you think that adding a Service Pack would lose functionality
I don't understand your statement about the BD plugin - if you already have full Blu-ray functionality in X8 then you must already have the plugin and do not need it again - you only need the plug-in if you do NOT currently see Blu-ray in your disc burning options.
The plugin adds Internal blu-ray functionality to X8
My DVD is a stand alone programme - very few people use it or want it - after updating just go to Windows control panel and un-install it

Re: Applied VS X8 SP without getting X8.5
I thought that Corel added mydvd to get compatibility with windows 10 (so i made an assumption that maybe there are problems with the internal dvd/bd tool with the new os, so they removed that in the upgrade), this is the reason i thought the update could removve something to get newer os compatibility. I just did not want to get the same X2 to X3 lost of the internal dvd tool in the upgradeThe whole purpose of a service pack is to improve functionality and cure some problems - why on earth would you think that adding a Service Pack would lose functionality
But now everything is crystal clear
Thanks
