I'm thinking of upgrading from VS 7SE to 9 but have some questions:
1. Can I install the free trial of 9 alongside or at the same time as running 7?
2. I have several MPG files that play fine with windows media player but chokes VS 7SE. Somehow VS picks up the wrong audio format for the file or there is something wrong at the very end of the file. Yet other tools such as my Roxio editor and others can also process the file. Is this fixed in VS 9? In other words, is it less sensitive to minor errors in the file?
3. I currently use DVD Moviefactory 2.5SE to create DVD's and build menus. Does VS 9 have the same functionality build in?

Upgrading to version 9 from 7SE questions
1. You can't run both VS9 and VS7SE at the same time. You can install VS9 trial even if VS7 is installed. These programs can be independent of each other.
2. There's a patch available for VS7SE users to update their software, check this site: http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp70.htm
3. Yap, there is.

Re 3: The burning module in VS 9 is far more sophisticated than that in VS 7 or in MF2.5 for that matter, including a lot more options in menus. But just be aware that the latest version of Movie Factory/DVD Disc Creator 4.0 is yet more sophisticated on the production end than VS9. But to repeat, VS9 is great in its own right.

I already installed that patch and still have the problems I noted above.bryave wrote:2. There's a patch available for VS7SE users to update their software, check this site: http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp70.htm
What I really want to know is if VS9 is any better or less sensitive to minor errors in the MPEG2 file being edited?
It seems that VS7 was more sensitive to this than any other program I used including windows media player, windvd, roxio's editor Videowave, demux programs, etc. For example, one file that I have that works with all the above programs but VS7 chokes on does seem to have a problem with the end of file. When I run PVAStrumento it tells me "ALERT> Temporal structure wrong in GOP at EOF. Dropping." Everything else seems to be able to deal with this type of error except VS7.
So what I am asking is if VS9 has been improved to make it more bullet proof in dealing with errors inside the MPG file being edited like the other products that I listed above.
