Audio Artifacts
I've been having this problem for quite sometime and hope that someone out there can help me figure this out.
The wav audio files themselves do not contain any artifacts or fx yet when I render the project they randomly appear. Also, this happens in X7 and X8 versions of the software. I have uploaded two samples so you can see what I'm talking about. The first file is a sample of the rendered audio clip itself and the second is a sample of the rendered audio file in the project. At the end of the audio clip there is an artifact that sounds like I'm about to say something else??
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Audio Artifacts
Yes it does sound as though you start to speak again - is there any thing else at all in any other track at that time - if you play the timeline in 'Project' mode do you hear anything at all at that point.

Re: Audio Artifacts
There is a wav music file that plays throughout the project but playback in the project mode doesn't reveal any artifact- it only happens during the render process. And its always that 'uhh' sound at the beginning or end of a clip.

Re: Audio Artifacts
Does anyone have any idea as to why these artifacts are present in the rendered file, but not in the original?

Re: Audio Artifacts
I enlarged one of the clips in question and took a snap shot per your request, and then took another from a farther distance for comparison. As you can see from the pictures there is no audio/sound at the end of the clip.

Re: Audio Artifacts
The wav graphic is just for reference and not accurate in size.
I see a gap between the clips.
If you rerender does the problem at the same spot?
And if you nudge one clip 1 or 2 frames ?

Re: Audio Artifacts
One would think that given the nature of the artifact it would show up in the picture considering its not a hum or background noise but rather a distortion of the audio. Nevertheless, re-rendering the project doesn't always result in the artifact appearing in the same spot, but sometimes it does. The project in question results in the artifact appearing in the same spots, at least for now. Also, the gap you are seeing is the space between two different wav files. Moving the clips in the timeline doesn't make any difference either. The only solution that seems to work is re-recording the audio clip and inserting the new file into the project but that seems a bit counter-productive to say the least. Furthermore, I have done this in the past only to re-render the project and find an artifact appear elsewhere in the project. Talk about frustrating! I can play the audio files in any player without the artifact present so I'm certain the problem lies within VS. I have recently decided to move onto more reliable software (Adobe Premiere Pro) to meet my editing needs but in the meantime I have a two hour documentary that I'm not about to start over from scratch, especially considering its nearly complete except for a few minor corrections, and while in the process of learning how to use new software so I need to figure out a fix for this so I can complete the project and move on.

Re: Audio Artifacts
Can you not save the file and import this into Premier to make the final adjustments and also cut out any imperfections in the audio?

Re: Audio Artifacts
I tried but unfortunately I'm not able to import vsp files into Premiere Pro to make the edits. I have exhausted every effort to make this work to no avail. I have literally rendered this 10 minute clip more than a dozen times since yesterday morning and at best the artifact moved to some other place in the video. The problem is not the assets themselves but rather the software. There seems to be a problem in the rendering process as the issues I'm having aren't even consistent or predictable. And uninstalling and then re-installing the software doesn't resolve the issue. Disabling the 'smart render' doesn't help either. The good news is that this experience is more than enough for me to leave Corel behind without any regrets. The bottom line is that this software is junk (what do you expect for less than $100?) and I'm only sorry that I didn't make the change sooner. So I'm saying goodbye to all of the unexpected crashes, slow responses, stuttering playback, rendering issues, etc, etc. For what its worth the previous version (X7) seemed to be more stable than the latest (X8.5) version. Thanks to everyone who chimed in trying to help me resolve the problem. At this point I'm just going to have to cut my losses, finish the project with the artifacts intact, and practice my skills using a more reputable software that has plenty of training and customer support.

Re: Audio Artifacts
Of course you can't import a vsp file into Adobe Premiere Pro since it is not a video file but a project file which simply lists the resources of your project, edits done, transitions, effects applied, etc. It contains no video at all. (You can't import a Adobe project file into any VS project for the same reason).

Re: Audio Artifacts
I knew it wouldn't work but another poster suggested it so I tried anyways.
But its not like I had anything to lose because Corel has already wasted months of my time as the files don't render correctly- lesson learned.

Re: Audio Artifacts
Good luck with your Adobe Premiere Pro especially now that it has gone over to the "Creative Cloud" service

Re: Audio Artifacts
What skier-hughes was suggesting was that you render your existing project, warts and all, in VS to create a new video file using the Share process. You appear to have taken this suggestion to mean merely using File > Save/Save As. If you create a new video file in VS, you should be able to then open this in Premiere for further editing and cutting out the bad bit, as skier-hughes suggested.inyour4head wrote:I knew it wouldn't work but another poster suggested it so I tried anyways.

Re: Audio Artifacts
Yes I took his comment to mean just that. I can certainly import the rendered file into Premiere Pro but I'm not quite sure how I'm going to be able to fix the problem when the audio/video is all one file. What I mean is that if I try to cut out the problem area on the voice over it will also cut out the background music as well creating another problem. I appreciate the feedback but I don't think there is an easy way to resolve this problem.
