I recently bought Vidoestudio Ultimate X8 and have just made a family movie. But when I tried to generate the video, no matter what video output format I tried. I always got this error at the end with no movie file generated.
Failed on reading video

I was able to view the raw movie clips at the edit mode. Any idea?
Welcome to the forum, but sorry to hear you are having problems.
Can you please right click one of the clips in the timeline and copy ALL its Properties here, or take a screen grab of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment. Then we'll have a better idea of what we are dealing with.
Can you also please confirm that when you go to output video you use the Share function, and not File > Save.
Finally, while I know you said you are using X8, can you give us the exact build number (Help > About). There was a recent Service Pack 3 which seems now to be incorporated in the on-line version of X8, and which has caused some users problems.
Attached are screenshots of movie clip properties and videostudio version. I was using the Share function to generate the movie ( I have been using VS Pro X2 ). I did recall that I did the service pack 3 upgrade from the url link in the email. I purchased the software via online download.
Your video properties look similar to the ones recorded with my Canon 7D, I have to say I do not have problems, only difference would be the frame rate, as I am in the uk uses 25fps.
I have tried / tested a few renders with no problems so really at a loss as what to suggest.
As Ken remarks there seems to be some issues with SP3 although my 64 bit program works flawlessly, (kiss of death there), 32 bit program is another matter.
As for the error numbers, they mean nothing to me at all, sorry.
Out of interest how large in kb is the Main program file, I see 1,385.566Kb (when viewing folder in details view)
I assume you downloaded 3 files Main , Content and Bonus.

What version of Quicktime do you have installed? This of course governs the .mov format from your camera.
Otherwise, the Properties look absolutely normal. Your VS has been updated with SP3, so all I can think of to do would be to uninstall the whole program, reinstall it but do not install SP3 this time.
I uninstalled the all videostudio main, bonus and content, and reinstalled everything without SP3. I got the same error message at rendering . I have 3 slightly different types of raw video clips. I tried a combination all 3 different types in a short movie project and I could render the final movie mpeg fine. I wish the software can tell us which raw clip(s) has the read failure so that I can exclude it from the movie project.
My QT player version is 7.7.4 (1680.86). Yes, all my raw clips are .mov. Out of frustration, I cut my movie project into half and was able to render the mp4 fine. Now I am trying 2/3 of my movie project to see if it is successful. I suspect there might be one raw movie clip corrupted. But then I could see them all in the edit windows though while I was making the movie project. Thanks.
The 2/3 project rendering try failed. I found the raw script that caused the failure. It would be nice if the software can directly tell users which clip has the reading failure instead of user's tedious searching. I was trying to upload the raw clip to see if you can render it into mp4 file but the file is 88MB with 53 secs in length and the forum wouldn't allow me to do the attachment. Thanks.

Sorry but you need to upload samples that size to an external upload site like OneDrive or the equivalent, and make sure it is downloadable by others.
I upgraded the QT to 7.7.9 (1680.95.84). I tried the rendering after deleting the "bad one" but still failed . I have 3 slightly different types of raw video clips
I would suspect the last two using the iCatch AVCC codec, not sure what that is?
Do a google search on that?
It is also possible that they are using a variable frame rate, not easily edited.
29.694 fps is not standard? 29.97fps being NTSC standard.
You may be best in converting those troublesome video to a more editable version.
Format Factory does a reasonable job, take care when installing to decline any additional bits and pieces, just install FF.
