Chinese characters in EXIF

Post by Joelle »

I speak a few languages, but Mandarin is not one of them (I wish) :-)

Every so often when I look at the EXIF Chinese characters have appeared, I would love to know what it says!.
It is very hit and miss, so can't pinpoint when it happens.
Not serious, just puzzling.
It has been doing this for years, very odd :-)

Anyone else see this?

The characters are in Artist's Comments. Perhaps the photographer entered the image title (onion skin) also in Chinese. Just a thought.

He he, funny boy..:-)

That's mine, the onion skin, not the characters.
A few years ago I asked the developers, who had no idea how it got there. They said it was 'ancient' Chinese and not the sort of characters they use now, so am none the wiser.
Just wondered if anyone else sees this.

Thanks Joe :-)

Chinese characters don't just show up. If the characters aren't in use they still have to exist in one of the UTF character lists. And do the characters make any sense as they are? Like is it fully translateable? Or are they so random and out of place it's like the character was used to replace something else? With Unicode every character set has a default beginning point and each letter then has a corresponding point in relation to the start. It's possible that when encoding the EXIF information it's accidentally transposing the characters.
