Hey folks. Just like the title says: I was working along today, but when I created a new layer I could no longer get anything done.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, a knock off screen tablet.
I've made sure the layers were not locked
It will paint fine if there is something already there
The mouse also will not paint
Argh.
X8 refuses to paint on transparent areas

Re: X8 refuses to paint on transparent areas
Probably won't help, but make sure there is no selection. Selections -> None. The only reasons I can see for this happening are 1) Layer is locked (which you said it isn't) 2) Selection is active or 3) THere is a mask layer involved. Pretty sure a mask would be more obvious than a selection.

Re: X8 refuses to paint on transparent areas
I just opened a new raster layer with white background, added a new layer. I tried painting with the mouse but no paint appeared on the layer or the white background layer. I closed the document and started again. This time it worked correctly with both mouse and pen/tablet. I think it's a bit of brain scrambling! Close the programme and try again!spearcarrier wrote:Hey folks. Just like the title says: I was working along today, but when I created a new layer I could no longer get anything done.

Re: X8 refuses to paint on transparent areas
..
Thanks for all your helpful replies. X8 is still being a complete pain in the rear. This issue has happened with older versions before, Closing the program and reopening would fix it, but in this case it just flat won't. Nothing is selected, locked, no masks, nothing. It's all set to normal defaults. Nothing is working.
Sometimes when this would happen with older programs, I could select where I wanted to paint and it would let me paint within the selection. It won't let me do that either.
This is with the 64bit version of X8. I don't have the 32bit version. I somehow thought I'd get the 32bit when I bought it, but nope. No dice. Which is also a major disappointment, because I'm still stuck using X4 just to do things like scan in document. I regret buying the program at all right now, cuz... I'm hardly able to use it much less! Grrr.

Re: X8 refuses to paint on transparent areas
Hi,
I may completely misunderstand you, but would this be helpful to you?
I only have a Dutch example for you, at the moment, but you will recognise the presets for Filling a layer.

You see where there is a tick at "Alle lagen gebruiken" > "Use all layers". The tick is default.
Remove the tick and try again.
Same thing has been nagging me since X6 and finally somebody showed me this simpel solution, yesterday.
About the 32/64-bit thingie...did you download the trial and then bought, basically, the activationcode from Corel?
The trialversion is 64-bit only and if you activate that with your purchased code, you are stuck with the 64-bit version.
If you bought it from scratch you do get the choice of installing either/or standalone.

Re: X8 refuses to paint on transparent areas
Have you tried resetting the settings to Default? (Presets>curved arrow).
