You need to check that the program has been installed to Pal TV standards
I have just re-installed X8 and after installing the Ultimate package the default project properties do show as 720 x 480. Clearly this is wrong, but the Show Messages will correct that.
Please go to Share where you will see the various video formats, I see Mpeg4 selected, in the Properties panel I see the template using 24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
If you see 29.97fps then the program is installed to NTSC standards.
Otherwise its ok.

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi Jezzer
The project properties are set for the individual projects, I suspect you have saved the first project using NTSC, that may of course be correct.
You seem to indicate using Show Messages that should change the project properties to match the video, so what are the properties of your video file, we assume they will be pal as you live in the UK, but equally could be NTSC depending on the camera?
Assuming the first clip in the timeline is your video file, change the option “same as project properties” to “Same as First Video Clip”
What do the properties now show?
Otherwise right click a clip on the timeline and choose Properties, post an image of that panel.

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi
There is no chance of me selecting NTSC. Im using the Show Messages so what ever i put in it will match.
This is the details of me putting a video clip from my camcorder in the timeline and then just going to the share tab and selecting same as project settings&Same as first video clip.
As you see project settings is NTSC but Same as video clip is Pal

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi Jezzer
There is no problem with those properties.
You are in the UK and have installed the program to use Pal TV standards, however your camcorder is recording to NTSC standards not Pal and indeed has caused a little confusion?
The show messages worked well in setting the properties to your video files properties
The program will edit NTSC ok.
Now the properties match I assume the stutter has disappeared.
Smart Proxy
If timeline playback is a little slow / stuttering then try enabling Smart proxy from Settings menu.
Right click a clip on the timeline and choose to create proxy files.
That should help smooth playback.
What are you trying to make, a video for pc or internet playback and use Share Same as options
If you are intending to burn a disc then you may have to create a NTSC type, you may also have to create your own templates?

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi
I dont know why the phone with the video on it is recording in NTSC,Im going to have to look into that.
From your help i have managed to work out why things have messed up in the project settings,What i did was go into Settings Project Properties then hit the reset tab,And its all gone back to Pal.
This thread has now fixed my problem as my stutter has now gone because of the project settings were not matching the clip.
Thanks Again

Hi Jezzer
Sorry about the previous post, I think I viewed the same image twice, showing NTSC for both, senior moment.
I am sure the images showed NTSC, you did not edit your post by any chance?
Just read your last reply and resetting the properties will have caused the difference.
So are you using a phone or camcorder?

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Sorry i have got you all mixed up
First of all i had put my mobile video on but then i did a quick edit thinking you were not online so i could quickly replace the mobile phone video with my camcorder video,Really sorry for the mess up.
I shall tell you what i saw when i put in the camcorder video,The camcorder info in the timeline is indeed pal,But when i ticked same as project settings it came up as NTSC i then did what you said which was select same as first clip and then i got Pal. So something was messed up,I then went into the Project Properties tab then hit the reset tab,Which put everything to Pal,So now when i click on same as project settings its Pal not NTSC.
So everything is great with your help i have managed to fix the stuttering
But now i have a problem why does my mobile phone record videos different,I have a uk mobile phone so it should be recording in Pal.

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi Jezzer
Thanks for the info and confirming I was not seeing things, not a problem I just thought I was ready for a lay down
Sorry cannot really help with the phone format, I assume most will record to 30fps.
Some do a variable frame rate, that makes it difficult to edit.
As your fps show as 30.005 rather than 30fps it may well be variable?
Others on the forum may know about phone formats.
When you add a 30fps to a pal timeline it will remove drop 5 frames per second and may be noticeable as a bit of a stutter.
If you are not intending to mix camcorder and phone video then edit phone using 30fps, you may have to set up your own ntsc templates.
Camcorder
I notice you are recording to 50P, if you are intending to burn a disc then that would have to be converted to 25fps.
1920 x 1080 x 50P is not a standard used to burn discs 25fps has to be used
Unless 1280 x 720 x 50P, that can be burnt to disk.
The important thing is you have matched the properties and stopped the stuttering.

Hello Lata
Im not going to be mixing my mobile videos with other videos done by my camcorder,So i wont have any problems,Its good to know its not videostudio im having problems with its just that the phone records different.
At the moment im not going to be burning my edited videos to disc,So thats not going to be a problem.
Again thank you for solving my problem.

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Back to this post again
If i put a video in the timeline and play the clip in the preview it plays smooth,But if i press project and play the clip it judders when there is a bit of a fast movment.
I still have it set so the project settings is the same as the video settings.
EDIT: I now see the problem im sure this is the problem if i select same as project settings its 25fps But if i select same as first video its 50fps. So how do i fix this as i have done what you have said in the previous replys.

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi Jezzer
Smart Proxy
Some HD videos are quite demanding on the programs resources and may cause project playback problems.
Smart Proxy creates additional files used to smooth playback thus improve editing.
Go to Settings – Smart Proxy manager – Enable
Any clip already on timeline , right click and choose Create Smart Proxy
Any new files inserted to timeline will have proxy files created automatically, providing the frame size is above 720 x 480 (576). See F6 performance tab.
The files do take a while to render, a small icon can be seen on the clip when proxy files have been created
Hope that helps

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi Jezzer
I missed your Edit to the post
Although you have used Show Messages the option only works when the program can read the video properties correctly. I assume being from an iPhone VS is struggling doing that and cannot set the project properties correctly.
Your best option is to edit project properties (Alt + Enter ) to as near the properties of the video file. The Frame Rate (fps) will be a problem so use the nearest option.
If you right click a clip and choose properties, those are the settings you should aim for. Otherwise choose settings that you intend to use for your final video, if for internet that will probably be Mpeg4
But yes you need the frame rate to be correct whether it be 50p or 25fps?
Smart Proxy
after turning on Smart Proxy you have to create the proxy files for that to work.

But im still getting jerky playback in the preview window even when ive turned on proxy,It shows a symbol in the click so i presume the proxy has been created?
