Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
So ive been putting together a chirstmas video of my daughter,And everytime i make a transistion from one clip to another,It stutters for 1 second so it spoils it. Any ideas?
I think it might have something to do with me trimming the videos because if i just join the cuts without trimming then its smooth with no stutter.

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
So - how are you trimming it ? what's your procedure
you say it is OK before you trim it - is it OK if you deliberately overlap the clips in the timeline which automatically adds a transition

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transition
As its just a Christmas video i was doing it the fast way which is using the sliders on the preview screen to trim the start and ending of each video,Then just putting in the transition in between each video.
I have not overlapped the clips so i will give that a go and see what happens.

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
A simple overlap of the clips gives you in effect a crossfade transition, and you can vary its duration by varying by how much it overlaps.

Hi
Is this a problem on the timelines with project playback or does it show after creating a video file from Share-
By the way what version of Video Studio are you using.?

Hi
This happens in project playback and after i have created the video file,Its not happening if i playback the videos straight from the camcorder so i can rule that out.
I have Video Studio 8

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi
When you say I have Video Studio 8, I assume the latest Video Studio CVSX8.5 and not the older version about 10 years old, Ulead Video Studio 8
When you go to Share to create a video file can you deselect Smart Render before pressing Start to see if that improves the video quality
Was the video recorded using a camcorder or Phone / I-pad which can cause some issues as they may create variable frame rates that are difficult to edit?

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
I presume VideoStudio 8 (18.6.0.6) is the latest version,I got it in December.
I can deselect Smart render so i will try that next and see what happens,What does smart render do?
The video has been recorded by camcorder.

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Then you have VS X8.5... That X is important as it is Corel's "cute" way of adding the Roman 10 to the 8.5. So the version is in fact 18.5. The 5 came with a significant update patch from X8, and the 18.6 in your version number shows that the latest update pack has also been added.
SmartRender is a function which allows the program to avoid re-rendering video in a project which has the same format as your output format. Only those parts of a project which are new, e.g. filters having been applied or transitions added, or video which is in a different format, are rendered. But sometimes, and only for some users in particular circumstances, SmartRender has been known to cause problems. Switching it off before a render usually fixes things, though the full render take longer.
Did you try overlapping the clips?

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
I did wonder what the X was cheers,I did think i had the latest version. And now i know what smart render does
Ok back to my problem,Ive tried overlapping the clips and its hit and miss someting i get a judder and other times it goes smooth.
When i open videostudio in the top right corner its saying untitled 720*480,Could this be the problem? I know you can go into project properties but i didn't think this would affect the out come of the video?

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
the 'untitled' just means you have not saved your project and given it a name - when you do that name will appear there - does not affect the workings at all

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
that's the frame size of your project - depends where you live whether that is correct or not
In fact I just checked out your location and it shows you as being in the UK - so that is not really correct should be 720 x 576 - unless your using HD when it should be a lot more
looks as though we haven't checked your video properties - please put a clip in the timeline and RIGHT click over it and choose 'properties' please copy those properties (screenshot) and add that to your next post - then we can see what we're dealing with
This topic will tell you how to add an image to your post - - http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=57659

Re: Stutter at the start of every cut/transistion
Hi Guys
After installing X8 to Pal TV standards the first project we see uses 720 x 480, yes that’s strange.
The templates have indeed been installed to Pal 25fps.
I have re-installed the program a few times over the past week and always start with 720 x 480
It could be of course that you have installed to NTSC standards? You need to check that
If you have never changed the project properties then 720 x 480 will be used.
Once set to Pal will be used for new projects.
Jezzer
Go to F6 Preferences, tick Show Message’s when inserting first clip.
Start a new project
Add one of your clips to the top timeline
A window should prompt to match the properties (do you get that?)
Choose details, copy and paste the right hand panel details to your post
OK yes to close panel- project properties should match the video files properties.
