Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
I thought I had made it quite clear I have had no trouble at all using my GoPro footage directly from the camera into the computer in all versions of VS since X6 (which I had when I got the Hero 3). In other words, no conversion at all was or is necessary. The suggestion of using a converter related to X4 since it was having difficulty recognising the GoPro version of mpeg-4 which I am pretty sure did not exist when X4 came out.
I'm afraid I have no idea what format the Sony uses, though imagine it will be some variant of mpeg-4 as well. Hopefully someone else will be able to advise on that.
But the bottom line from my own point of view is that you should have no trouble at all using GoPro mpeg-4 in X8 directly from the camera.

Thanks
Seems as though the way to solve this problem I am having is to finally upgrade to x8. Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Extreme10
You could upload a sample to a sharing site, one drive or Google Drive work ok.
Then we can try your video on our pc’s to see if the problem can be replicated?

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
Finally I found a way forward to get the files into something that Corel Video studio X4 can read.
I used the converter that is embedded in the gopro editing.
It converted the file into a mp4 file.
At least I can now go forward.
Once you are in the editing section of gopro you can convert to a number of different files

Is that the program called GoPro Studio?

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
I have an older version of it on another computer, but have never bothered using it as it is rather limited -- or at least was! At that time the only real other option was to output in .mov format, which earlier versions of VS consistently had problems with.
I have tried downloading the latest version but it simply won't install, despite downloading it three times. Each time it gets about halfway through installation and throws the same error message each time. Even tried rebooting and opening nothing, and still get the same errors. Since I don't use the program, I don't think I will try again. It was just that I was intrigued by the various options on that page you posted. Seems obvious GoPro have been doing some extensive work on it.
In case you don't realise it, that program also has the ability to straighten out GoPro's fisheye effect quite well.

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
I converted two two minute videos and it did them fine. It just may help someone else in the future.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
Trial of x8 seems to be fine .. but problems with mp4 sound so, my solution was to use dvd video soft (it's free) and converted a copy of the mp4 to mp3; opened X8 removed the sound track and inserted the mp3 file .. now works fine. Pity there is no codec for mp4 or, apparently, mpg2. I'm an old man and so if this post is out of date or unhelpful don't shoot me, just go "oh old bloke"

But of course there is, and that is what all of us are using, those of us, that is, who don't have the same problems... Are we talking about the full version or the trial version of X8?oldman42 wrote:Pity there is no codec for mp4 or, apparently, mpg2.
As for the "old bloke" I have no idea how old you are, but I am 66 and some of my long-term colleagues here are even older, so age is no reason to think we are not capable...

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
Old! we all get there some time don't we.
I am a mountain guide ( still active), skier and Motor biker.( twice across the USA and once from California to Alaska) so age doesn't come into it. It's how fortunate the cards have been shuffled. Oh I forgot to say I am 79. Hate that number. I always ask folk to forget my birthday, I do.
Trying to keep abreast of computers certainly keeps the grey cells active though, and some times a bit frustrating when things go wrong.
Seems that the answer to my problem will be to upgrade and hope it works.
Thanks all for your impute
