loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
Hope some one on this forum can help as I don't seem to be able to find anyone within Corel who can. I am at present using X4 for editing which I find fine , up till now. I want to load gopro video MP4 into video Studio pro X4. I found that it didn't work and researched for the patch to alter one of the files within video studio files. I did this successfully but it didn't have any effect on being able to load Gopro files.
Reading that the newer X8 upgrade would allow the use of ALL files I now have that in the computer , Trials version. This also doesn't work but does go one better that you can drag the Gopro file onto the time line and it appears there but when you try to use it and it just disappears .
Knowing how popular there gopro cameras are I am astonished that top line editing suits don't accommodate the use of these cams. I don't have one at present as I needed to make sure the video from gopro would mix with my other files.
My other choice of sports cam would be the Sony as200v. but I don't have access to file fro this cam to try out. Does anyone have information on this sports cam?
My first time on using this forum so I am hoping I have a good result.

Hi This is extreme10 again
just tried the x8 again and it doesn't load gopro video into the time line when you drag the file . Don't know why it initially worked.

The problem with the X8 trial is that it is severely crippled and many formats will not work correctly in it - this is very silly of Corel and the first time they have done that - previously all trials were full working versions - so don't worry to much about your videos not working in the trial.

Thanks Brian that is so reassuring to know that something can be done. I am indeed very impressed with how quickly your reply. Thanks again.

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
Yes, as you say, the GoPro series is very popular. I have the now somewhat old Hero 3 Black Edition, and have been editing their mp4 High Def output since Video Studio version X6 with no trouble at all. Excellent results.
And I agree with Brian that it was an extremely silly decision by Corel to so severely cripple the trial version of X8/8.5. It was apparently all money-driven, since they stripped out every codec for which they had to pay a licensing fee to someone else. This unfortunately included the mpeg-4/AVCHD H.264 codec which is what the GoPro uses.
But as Brian also reassured you, I can only repeat that the full version of VS X8.5 certainly has no trouble with GoPro footage.

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
Thanks Ken
I will now certainly consider upgrading to X8 version. I cannot understand why the patch which Corel provide hasn't worked though. It's always a risk purchasing software untried, that was the reason for down loading the X8 trial version. I certainly agree that it was most unwise of Corel to strip down the trial version. They must be losing quite a few customers.
I will let you know how it goes.

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
I don't really remember much about that X4 patch. But at that time mp4 high def AVCHD/H.264 clips usually had the extension of either .mpg or .m2ts or .mts. Clips using other mpeg-4 codecs called themselves .mp4. So it could be that VS cannot read a clip calling itself .mp4 but in fact made with the H.264 codec. So I guess you could always try renaming one of your GoPro clips with one of those other extensions and see if they can be edited in X4. I would start with .mpg.

Hi Ken.
Thanks I will try that and let you know. Just had a belated reply from Corel support. this was their suggestion.
I understand that you are having issues with the program. For some issue, mp4 is not being recognised due to mp4 compatibility issue. I recommend to reconvert your mp4 to mp4 using the third party programme called freemake video converter to MP4. Let me know the result.

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
Hi Ken
Tried the mpg first and it loaded onto the time line but without any thumb nail . it played fine. Tried the others but could a mismatch window. Went back and tried the mpg again and received the same mismatch notice. I will have to try the convertor but it seems a long way round doesn't it.
Thanks again for the help I will have to see if someone else who has used gopro with X8 has found it OK.

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
My suggestion to change the extension was with regard to X4, not X8. Nothing will get the videos to play in the trial version of X8 because the codec is missing.

Hi
I tried it with both X4 and x8
I am not too sure about using a free ware item has I read on a recent search for one that it caused a great amount of problems. Will have to make more enquires about that
as the message only gave a name and not the actual web address loads of free ware comes up.

I have not had a single problem with Freemake converter and have been using it for years.
Did you go to this link http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/?

I too have used Freemake in the past without problem. Some of us here are currently using another freeware program called Format Factory from http://format-factory.en.softonic.com/ It does an excellent job too. Just be careful if you decide to install it, to read every one of the installation boxes as installation proceeds as it offers to install other things like toolbars which you probably would not want.

Re: loading gopro files into either X4 or Trial version X8
Hi All.
Has any one actually used X8 with gopro files? If so can you actually drop the gopro file into version X8 without having first to convert it?
As I envisage having quite a lot of video to edit, initially , I do want to avoid the time wasting job of converting long tracks of gopro video.
My second question is:- Does any one know what the files are from the sony as200v sports camera. It just may be a better choice if the files are compatible with Studio video X4 0r X8.
Personally both cams will do the job I want.
