TIFF with alpha channel

Post by RalfK »

Hi,

I have a couple of tiff files with an alpha channel.
If I try to open them in PSP X8 they are opened in the RAW Editor with complete broken colors.
If I hit the details button when opening the file, PSP shows me the Information that it is a Canon RAW file.
This explains why the program opens the file in the RAW Editor - but it does not explain the broken colors.

Am I right that PSP has problems reading 16bit TIFF files with an alpha channel?
Any hints how I get those files working with PSP?

Cheers

I don't know if anyone managed to come up with a good solution to this. There's something about some TIFF files that PSP misinterprets as being a RAW file. Any 16-big TIFF file with alpha channel saved by PSP opens just fine in PSP. So it's not strictly 16-bit TIFF with alpha channel that's the problem.

The color issue is because PSP is trying to open it up in RAW format not in TIFF format. So it's reading all of the values incorrectly.

EDIT: Quick side note. Don't know if this bothers you at all or not. PSP imports TIFF alpha channel as layer transparency, and actually deletes any color data that would have been found in the transparent areas. So in PSP and the GMIP they both load the alpha channel as layer transaprency. But with the GIMP I can use the un-erase feature to get back the areas hidden by the layer transparency. I can't do the same in PSP. If that makes any sense.

Hi,

seems that the the problematic files are those edited in On1Photo (the full version not the one that comes with Ultimate).

If I open one of those files in Photoline (which shows it fine) and uncheck the transparency and save - PSP opens it fine.
It is one extra step shicht I want to avoid.
