PSP X8 and Smudging Problems
I've created topics for smudging in the new versions of PSP, but I have to say I'm more peeved than ever! This is about making PSP scripts work the same in all versions. The market is huge for people using it exclusively for running scripts, and I feel we are being ignored. I've sent images to Corel staff who have written me back and told me there is definitely a problem with the smudge tool that needs to be fixed - this has been going on since X7 came out. In order to keep my customers, I have to make sure that my scripts work in versions from PSP 9 up to X8, and I can't do that because of these bugs.
I'm leaving two images here, so you can see what I mean - and honestly these two are fairly good - some of them are horrendous! May not be able to see them all that well because of the size limit on attachments.
I'm hoping someone from Corel will see this and get things going to get it fixed in both X7 and X8, but at least in X8.

Re: PSP X8 and Smudging Problems
I'm not sure of your specific problems with the smudge tool but I've all but given up with it. Any opacity over 70% is too harsh and anything lower than 70% is all but invisible.
I'm using x7.

Re: PSP X8 and Smudging Problems
I don't use X7 or X8 for anything other than testing my scripts in - it seems like every new version is harder for me to make scripts for
It's sad, since there are so many people who use it - I'm at a point where anyone with X7 or X8 will have to buy my psd templates instead - there's no need for it

The smudge problem exists since X7 and is visible in X8 too:jojomart wrote:I don't use X7 or X8 for anything other than testing my scripts in - it seems like every new version is harder for me to make scripts forIt's sad, since there are so many people who use it - I'm at a point where anyone with X7 or X8 will have to buy my psd templates instead - there's no need for it

This defect is corrected in X8 SP1 (= PSP X8.1) but a new bug was introduced with the SP1:

I don't know if Corel is planning a SP2 and if they will do a beta test for the next Service Pack (I strongly suggest they do it !).

Re: PSP X8 and Smudging Problems
Jean Luc has showed an example of the smudge brush. Jojomart, is it possible for you to explain what you are experiencing? We see two images but not really understanding what's happening in them.... and, what do you actually want the brush to do other than smudge? If you reduce hardness with opacity the brush does behave better.

Re: PSP X8 and Smudging Problems
As I said in my post along with the pics - when smudging parts of the pic (the fur or anything else), up to psp X6 there are no problems, when you get to X7, and X8, the smudging just doesn't work the same - I'm usually forced to try and fix it IN X8 as I can't see the problem in the earlier versions. And then on top of that, saving the script output from the higher versions also forces me substitute the older codes in the scripts so they can still be used from 9 and up - it's an utter mess - boggles my mind why they had to change script coding on something that worked perfectly well before.trueblue wrote:Jean Luc has showed an example of the smudge brush. Here are two more images, that you should be able to see better. The first image is done in psp 9 and the second in X7 or X8 - can't remember now which, as this was what I included in a zip file to corel a while back.

OMG, that's horrible! The SP1 was just updated yesterday for me - I'm going to try and see if it screws anything else up SMH!Jean-Luc wrote:The smudge problem exists since X7 and is visible in X8 too:jojomart wrote:I don't use X7 or X8 for anything other than testing my scripts in - it seems like every new version is harder for me to make scripts forIt's sad, since there are so many people who use it - I'm at a point where anyone with X7 or X8 will have to buy my psd templates instead - there's no need for it

OMG!!!! The whole fricken image disappeared!!! I was running a script, and Chose all my colors and half way through, when the smudging started, every layer disappeared! I'm sitting here slack-jawed! I don't even know what to say about it, I'm shocked. wtf are they doing over there??? ok so I tried it again, and it worked this time - don't know what happened the first time - but the smudging looks ok - but it wasn't a lot of smudging in the one I ran - I will try an animal tomorrow.

Re: PSP X8 and Smudging Problems
If this is a Script query, may I suggest it go into the script forum above. I thought you were using the smudge tool manually. I can move the whole thread if you wish, maybe more can help you in the scripting forum.
I do know there have been a few issues with scripting but as I don't script I can't help you much.
You are a new purchaser of X8 so you have free technical help from Corel which I suggest you avail yourself of it.

Re: PSP X8 and Smudging Problems
I does the same thing when you do it manually. I have had X8 since the day it came out - and as I said I've contacted them about it with sample pics. They wrote back saying there was definitely a problem and that they would work on getting it fixed - that was in X7 and when X8 came out I wrote to them again stating that I was surprised it hadn't been fixed in the new version - with no reply back from them.trueblue wrote:If this is a Script query, may I suggest it go into the script forum above. Re: PSP X8 and Smudging Problems
So here are two images I created as scripts in psp 9 and x8 - top one was run in X8 and bottom one in 9 - this is since the update - as you can see smudging is still screwed up - matter of fact it looks worse than it did before the update
Notice the weird effect above the nose as well - it's like a prism or rainbow or something coming from the smudging - no idea why that would happen.
