Surface Pro 3 here with Windows 10 Pro, and I have constant lock up issues as well.
I ran PSPX7 on the same Surface Pro under Windows 8.1 for months without issue. X7 started locking up as soon as I upgraded to Windows 10, so I updated to PSPX8 hoping that would fix the issue, but it continued.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling PSPX8 (and X7), as well as completely reinstalling Windows 10 but no luck.
I have an old Core 2 Duo PC running Windows 10 as well and PSPX8 runs perfectly on this machine.
Corel really need to do something about this issue! The software locks up if I have multiple layers in one image, or more than one image open and switching between them, or selecting vector objects - pretty much any interaction causes it to lock up and the CPU usage sits on a pretty steady 15-25%. I have to close the program in Task Manager.
So frustrating but at least I now know that it's not just me!

Re: Paintshop Pro X8 locking up!!!
Surface Pro has many quirks that other Windows 10 computers don't have- not just PSP, many other programs have issues, especially Corel Painter. Not sure what it is about the Surface Pro's, even the newest Surface Pro 4, that is different than other systems that cause these issues. Shame again on Corel for not patching these programs to run OK on the Surface Pros- many other graphics programs run just fine.
I'm totally avoiding Windows 10 for now for a multitude of reasons, but it seems your best option is to go back to Windows 8 if it worked with Corel.
Sadly, while Corel claims X8 compatible with With Windows 10 it evidently has some quirks. If you just purchased X8 you should contact Corel support soon if you are under the 30 day warranty, if they can't fix, get a refund. I get better support contacting them on their Facebook page-https://www.facebook.com/corelpaintshop

Re: Paintshop Pro X8 locking up!!!
First time poster so hi all.
I have had this same problem using a Surface Pro 3, even when doing the simplest task. Given it seems to work for some owners, I wonder if the issue is the spec of the device. Mine is a MS Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10 64-bit, with a Intel core i5-4300 @ 1.90 Ghz processor and 4Gb of RAM.
In terms of fixes I have tried reinstalling it 4 times, including the 64bit only, 32 bit only and both 64 and 32 bit options. I have tried turning of anti-virus software during the installation and use, and have also deleted as many files as possible from the %temp% directory. Finally I have checked Windows for update. Have though about sacrificing a goat to see if this helps but might just be a sign of desperation
I have written to Corel support to see if they can come up with a solution or can tell me how to get my money back. Maybe if enough Pro 3 users who have had a problem do the same we might get a quicker solution!
I will post once I get the response.

Re: Paintshop Pro X8 locking up!!!
Did at least get quick response on ticket but outcome not very positive as follows:
"There are performance issues right now with PaintShop Pro and Surface Pro computers. As of the moment we have no solutions to provide for our customers who are experiencing issues. Our developers are aware of this, and are currently working on it. If you wish to refund, you may do so by going to the link below."
Bit of a major pain as have used PSP for many years so don't especially want to go through the hassle of learning another tool from scratch.

Re: Paintshop Pro X8 locking up!!!
I happened to catch a news feed on my phone about a month ago where Microsoft admitted that their Surface pro was encountering issues with some software and they were aware of the problem and working on it. Apparently not all people had the same issues with the same programs, so it looks like another of those incompatibility things that will be difficult to troubleshoot. In this case, given it's not just PSP that some Surface Pro owners struggle with I would have to say that Microsoft is at least as much as fault and likely more than the software developers of different programs.

Re: Paintshop Pro X8 locking up!!!
this piece of crap program, which I used to love, didn't work well,on my surface pro 2 after x6. x6 also crashed on my cintiq companion 2 after a couple of operations and a crop or selection window. complete freeze, task manager shut down. upgraded to x8 and its even worse, always freezes if more than one window is open in the program. weird thing is, once i installed x8, it also affected x6 with the exact same problem instead of the prior problem x6 had. with judicious saves and careful operation, i could nursemaid x6 through a simple flyer edit. but now, two windows open in x6 freeze that program just like x8. task manager shows some cpu activity, but program is frozen on screen. So, its completely useless for me on both my wacom enabled touchscreen computers. maybe its the touch screen compatibility. support has been useless as well. I ammafraid I must reluctantly say goodbye to this program series, which has been a workhorse for me. angry and sad.

Re: Paintshop Pro X8 locking up!!!
I have had some luck messaging Corel on their Paintshop Pro Facebook page- https://www.facebook.com/corelpaintshop
If I had your problems I would keep at them about it. I assume you are using Windows 8 or 10 on your Cintiq and whatever your other computer is.
It doesn't necessarily account for crashes, but turning Flicks off in Windows can help solve a lot of problems. But is sounds like a memory management problem though and with some files/resources that X6 and X8 share.
I wonder if Photoshop Elements has the same problems or if it works OK- that would be my choice besides Corel.

Re: Paintshop Pro X8 locking up!!!
Does anyone have this same issue with a Surface Pro 4? I love my Surface and will most likely want to upgrade to a Pro 5 when they come out, but not if it continues to have this issue with PaintShop Pro. Not sure if the issue is only with the Pro 3 or if the newer devices have the same problem...

Re: Paintshop Pro X8 locking up!!!
so, is this problem mostly in conjunction with using the program on a surface pro? or with windows 10 compatability also?
I just purchased X8 today and was about to install it tonight.
i'm using and MSI i7 with windows 10. was really looking forward to checking out the program, I have still been using PSP4 until now.
