Combing effect, VS9

Post by Larry Dickman. »

Have just made a compilation DVD with various songs from some commercial DVD's (tracks converted to mpeg via tmpgenc, then edited with VS9).
All is fine except for a couple of songs from one particular disc, there is a "combing" effect for just these songs, the rest of the disc is fine......... Just played the disc through my computer(windows media player), and NO combing???
Any help would be appreciated.

Just thought I would add, I tried changing the Frame Type to "Lower Field First".

Some more info that may help, my project settings:

MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 9554 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Computer displays are not interlaced, which is why they don't suffer from the jaggies during horizontal movement like analog TVs.

The disk from which the videos in question were taken probably use a different field order than the rest of the material.

Thanks for your reply THoff.
Is there any way to overcome this??

I would take the non-compliant videos, and use Share -> Create Video File to create MPEG files with the correct field order. Click on the Options button and change the field order there.

If that doesn't work, you can change the field order to "Frame Based". This will eliminate all interlacing, but during rapid movement, the picture may appear to jump more than interlaced video.
