Hi this is probably staring at me in the face but i'm a bit of a novice. I'm doing a video with my 5 year old where she talks to her double. So camera in fixed position i do one recording where she is on the left and another where she is on the right and to create the video I need to fade them both on top of each other so it looks like there are two of them in the room.
We've done both videos and the timings for talking to each other are quite funny, i just need it to work.
I tried sliding the overlay picture to the halfway mark but it simply squeezes the overlay pic and it doesnt look right.
Hoping for some advice, many thanks, Matt. Oh I'm using VS X7

Yes it can be done - you need to apply the 'cropping' filter (NOT crop borders) from the FX lbrary then choose to customise the filter to show only half of the video onscreen
something like this

Re: Full screen overlay required as well as original project
Hi Brian, thanks very much for the reply. I still can't do it I don't think it will work as it will just put 2x half videos on the screen. I need both videos to be shown on the screen at the same time. Video 1 is a take when she is on the left of the kitchen, video 2 is a take when she is on the right of the kitchen. Camera stays put and we did both takes whist camera was in fixed position. The video needs to make it look like its one take.
With the crop feature If i split the screen you can tell. At the top of the img you can see two clocks, 2 pictures etc. I need to edit it as it's like one room but with 2x daughters talking!

Cheers! Matt

Ummmm - why did you choose to crop like that ??
in the part where your daughter is on the right you have a nice vertical line (see below) surely that is the point to crop to - you only need to crop that one if you put that video in the lowest track it will simply overlay the other one - no need to crop the one when she is on the right
if you choose a vertical line on the screen the join will be invisible

Docmatt you need to verify 2 things in the crop FX, once you set the area at the clip beginning
1) Tick stationary
2) Tick fill color black
3) copy keyframe and paste to all
Now
In the Mask overlay option you need to apply the full frame white mask to that clip.

Not sure I would choose Black or use a mask
I would choose blue or green and use the normal Chroma key option
this is the way I would do it - watch this - - https://youtu.be/fIXxx4nS-Eg
