Crash at "instant project"

Just purchased VideoStudio Ultimate X8 and came across an odd problem. ok The basics:
-New HP Pavilion 1 month old computer with Win 10 home edition, 64 bit OS, 8GB RAM, CPU@2Ghz
-New VideoStudio Ultimate X8, 18.6.0.6, 64 bit ultimate, never had a previous version on this new computer so it was a straight install direct from DVD (from a box, not downloaded).

Every thing works fine except when I click on the "Instant Project" icon the program crashes.

First it flashes a Corel loading bar that says "Updating template database..." then a Microsoft white box that says "Corel VideoStudio has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem" then it switches to "Corel VideoStudio has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." then it closes the program and send me to the Desktop.

Any case, any ideas before I uninstall and complain to Corel???

And welcome to the forums.

Some things to try........

First if you had installed the trial version then please uninstall trial before installing purchased version..........

Did you allow the program to completely install, at the end of installation may be a long pause as though the installer has stalled, some users terminate installation.

Can you go to Help – Check for updates, if SP3 shows please install.

And if that does not work

Go to C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\18.0

Re-naming the folder to “18.0_Old” should reset the program.
It will take a while to launch on first try.

And if still a problem
Copy the contents of your disc to your hard drive to re-install the program from there.

I have the same problem. I purchased videostudio x8 ultimate yesterday and after installing the program crashes when clicking on instant Project. I did now a new Installation on a brand new system (Windows 10) with the same problem. In my memory all worked fine after installing the main program. But after installing the content and bonus, the issue appeared.
Renaming or deleting the folder "18.0" did not help, because after the start when videostudio initialize the components, the program crashes at 80% (NBSMEAVS.VFX). I think this has something to do with the issue of the instant Project).

Did you have a solution now? I posted this issue to corel yesterday. Maybe they have an answer for it.

I did a new test and I find out, that the problem must be with the content.

I installed videostudio 8x on a new system with Windows 10. First I run the "VideoStudioUltimateX8_64bit_1Main.exe" with version 18.5.023 and it was fine. Second, I installed the hotfix to 18.5.025 and all was fine too. Third, I installed the SP3 to Version 18.6.06, and instant project was fine too. But after I installed the "VideoStudioX8_2Contents.exe", videostudio crashed when clicking on instant Project. So something in the Content is not compatible with the actually version and Corel has to fix it asap.

Can someone give this information also to Corel? Don't know if I use the right terms (I am from germany) and they will understand me correctly.

Did you uninstall the trial version before installing the purchased version?

Did you install the hot fix manually or did the program do that automatically?

If a manual install can you uninstall the program choosing to remove all personal data.
After installing the program do not manually install any service packs.
Allow the program to install the service packs, go to Help Check for updates.

It may take a few launches to trigger the Service Pack update.

As for the pause / freeze of the program at 80%, yes I have witnessed and used Task Manager to close, that but the program then runs ok on the next start

my last test was on a brand new system with no other software installed exept Windows 10 with all current updates. Nothing else. All updates of videostudio 8x ultimate were made from videosstudio itself. But the update (for example the hotfix) asked for closing the program to make the update. All updates were succesfully, only when I installed the Content (part 2 of my purchased download), videostudio crashed when clicking on instant Project. That is the fact.

Because the freeze at 80%, I know that the program runs ok on the next start, but it crashes also when clicking on instant project.

I have past details of this and similar posts to Corel, I guess it will be after the weekend before we hear anything.

Its a little strange that different users have different Service Packs to install.

I own one of the original versions 18.0 and when I now re-install only need SP3 whilst you seem to need the Hot Fix, your installed version being 18.5 with no updates.
Doesn't make it easy comparing install issues.

Are you sure that you have installed SP3 update, the current version number with VSX8.5 should be 18.6.06

Yes, exactly 18.6.0.6. This can be seen from the window of the program... After installing the update to version 18.6.0.6, video Studio 8 has become even more unstable than before. FastFlick stopped working.

Hi Guys

As far as I know there are differences in Video Studio versions and the way updates are applied. ( I could be wrong as I don’t have a later version of CVS)

The original release was 8.0 if you have this and re-install then the auto updates will only install SP3 bringing the version number to 18.6.0.6 (that is how my program works) When I view the About details it shows Video Studio 8 not 8.5

If you purchased later in the year you should have bought 8.5
Alex can you check About to see if 8.5 shows
Installing the auto update with the hot fix bringing the version to 8.6.0.6
Then Installing the SP3 does not change the version number.

As I say that causes some confusion in the way we install service Packs, all I can say is to allow the program to install updates automatically rather than a manual install.
Mind you if the service pack is not suitable we do get the message regarding “unable to determine version”

everything is fine when not installing the content (part 2 of my purchased downloads). Installing the bonus (part 3) is ok so far as I know.
What I also determinded is, that when the content is installed and the program crashed when clicking on instant project, the program is also crashing when you move two video objects into each other to create a crossfade. That doesn't happen when the content is not installed. Then it works as it should.

So, as I told before, something with the content is not compatible with the newest version of VideoStudio Ultimate X8.5 (18.6.0.6).

Corel have provided a hot fix in the form of a file, uvswf.vio

Attached is the hotfix for the crash when clicking Instant projects in X8.
Please go to program folder\vio folder, backup the original one and copy this file there.

64 bit C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8\vio
32 bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X8\vio

In Windows7, the file replacement uvswf.vio gives nothing. Error when trying to view the clip still occurs...

wonderful. Everything's fine now. The program doesn't crash now when clicking on instant project and it doesn't also crash anymore when moving objects into each other for creating crossfades.
