missing blu-ray menus

Post by JONJON »

Hello could anyone help me. I have bought Videostudio x8 ultimate version. I payed the extra for the Blu-ray burning software of which I was a little disappointed Corel never gave free unlike in the x6 which I was using before. Anyway the point is on the blu-ray part I only have 4 menus of which there only text based menu types. Now if I wanted to make a DVD menu I have countless ones, I am spoilt for choice on the DVD one!
I have loaded all the software (VideoStudioUltimateX8_64bit_3Bonus), (VideoStudioX8_2Contents), (VideoStudioX8_Blu-ray), (VSProX8SP3). I can't believe these are all the menu's there are in the blu-ray section.

Any help will be most appreciated, many thanks

That's curious. On my first installation of X8, including the BD pack, I had 8 smart menus for Blu-Ray. None of them were text-type. So I am a little at a loss to know what might have happened in your case. One thing you could try would be to go to C:\Users\[Your Name]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro [(x64)] and change the name of the 18.0 folder to 18.0_OLD. Then restart VS. This will rebuild the various libraries and will take a minute or two to complete. Then check how many HD menu templates you have. If that doesn't change things for you, you can then revert to the original 18.0 folder.

The other thing you can try is to click on the orange Do More button located immediately above the library window in the Edit tab. I just did this and selected Menu Pack 2 for installation. This added a further 10 templates to my Blu-Ray menu collection. I then downloaded and installed Menu Pack 1 and it added a further 9 smart menus.

(I should perhaps explain that I had not bothered adding these Menu Packs before now since I very rarely make Blu-Ray discs these days, though I have a BD burner and a good collection of BD blanks...)

I don't know which text menus you received, but if you can manage to insert some of the smart menus, in effect it doesn't matter how many there are as they are all almost infinitely customisable to look nothing like what they do in their original appearance.

I couldn't find a "do more" anywhere. Anyway, the DVD menu template section has options for customizing DVD templates that you can then copy into the Blu-ray directory, which is in Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\18.0\Favorites\HD Basic. To create this, load at least one video file in VS for Blu-ray creation. Then, you create a favorite by taking any stock Blu-ray template and modifying in Customize. You won't use this template again but it creates the Favorites directory for HDBasic for you and it will have only that one template in it (unless you have previously customized a Blu-ray template). Next, get out and go to the DVD section and load the video file. Modify one of the templates in the DVD section that you like. You can customize templates to have spaced out chapters from 1 to 9 chapters on a menu page and change their sizes and locations. There is a template in the DVD section that allows 9 chapters on a page that you won't find in the Blu-ray section. Change the font size for the main Titles to 48, 28 for all of the others (under-the-chapter titles and including the menu page counter) for each customized template. If you don't want moving menus or music, delete them here. You only need to do this once but it's for every template you have customized. It's tedious but if you don't do it here then you will need to do it for every menu page every time you use that template in the Blu-ray section. Then copy them from Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\18.0\Favorites\16x9\Favorites to the Favorites HDBasic directory. You will recognize the templates you want to move by their dates. Should you ever need to reinstall VS, all of the Favorites will be wiped out, so make a backup somewhere! The more chapters per menu page, the fewer menu pages you need and the less room you need on the DVD or Blu-ray for menus, which leaves more video files you can fit on the disc. Blu-ray projects that are less than or equal to 22.6 GB will fit on a so-called 25 GB Blu-ray disc. If the project is running too large, consider fewer chapters or changing the chapter videos from 20 seconds to 10 seconds or even zero. If the project is still too large, you will need to resize, cut or remove a video file from the project. Ultimately, it's your content that counts, not the menus.

Hi JaySigel

Corel Guide and Do-More downloads

Launch X8 – from the Edit tab find the orange disc – to the right of the library view options.
That should open the Corel Guide, Internet connection required

two menu templates available one for DVD and the other, Menu2 for AVCHD / BD

I just installed the Blu Ray plug-in for VS Ultimate X10 and also have fewer menu templates than in previous versions. X10 shows only eight menus. Where can I find additional templates?
