unspecified error blu ray burning issue

Post by blacktooth »

Hi,
I am having an issue that others have had - the 'unspecified error 5.0.0' issue when burning a DVD. I have read as much as I can find and have followed advice to clean things up, but I still have problems. I recently bought a blu ray writer (external) for the first time. My problem occurs only when I try to burn blu ray, not standard DVDs. After editing a project of AVCHD files plus a few .jpg files - all from my Panasonic camcorder - I go straight to the share stage to burn a blu ray disc. Everything is fine until quite a long way through the burning process. Then the error message pops up. This happens most of the time but not all. I haven't made any discovery as to what makes or doesn't make the error happen.

I have used a work around, which is to go to 'share', click 'blu ray', and set up the menu. Then for the last step, rather than burn a disc I use the 'create blu ray folders' option. (Not sure why the 'create disc image' option doesn't work, but I suppose that's a difference between standard and blu ray.) Anyway, once the folders are created, I simply pull up the two folders in Windows 7, BDMW and CERTIFICATE, highlight them, and click 'burn' at the top of the folder. I think a previous poster complained about this extra step, and though I agree with that complaint, I'm willing to accept this is a standard procedure. So getting to my question, I just want to verify that this is a sound procedure for creating a blu ray disc? I would really appreciate it and sleep a little better if someone can confirm this for me. Thank you.

By the way, some (but not all) of the blu ray 'coasters' I've created when encountering the 'unspecified error' actually play perfectly when I try them out in my blu ray player. I'm not sure why that happens. Thank you for any light you can shed this strange occurence.
