Selection tool

I'm having trouble using the freehand selection tool.
I thought that once you select the area and complete the circle, that it turns into marching ants. I double click to end the selection and it disappears...It says to release the mouse and the ending line will connect with the beginning line but it doesn't it disappears , so what am I doing wrong.

Paintshop Pro x7-I checked for updates but there was none

On the Tool Options Palette along the top what is the drop down "Mode" set to? It should be set to Replace or Add. If it's set to Remove then PSP is trying to remove a selection, not create one.

Another thing to check is to see if "Hid marquee" is selected. Hide Marquee allows you to hide those marching ants so they aren't in your way as you work with the selection. The option can be found under the Selections menu. Or you can hit CTRL + SHIFT + M to toggle the marque visibility on and off.

Thank you so much ! It was set to remove. I changed it and I got the marching ants.
