(In) ability to rotate images in Manage Section of program

Post by Iamimdoc »

I am new user to program. When viewing a directory of photos in Manage Section, I am unable to rotate .nef files. I think this also occurs with .psd files. Jpegs can be rotated. Thus a directory (containing some files shot with camera rotated) cannot have all files viewed in proper orientation. Files can be rotated in Edit Area

Corel help desk has no solution.

Am I missing something as this seems to be that a feature all would want?

Is there a workaround?

Thanks

I don't have a Nikon but checked with my RAW files. They cannot be rotated so I assume that PSP does not allow alteration of RAW image in Manage; this makes sense since the RAW file is like negatives in the days of film.

Once you open a RAW file in Edit you have begun to change it and thus can rotate there. It will need to be saved under a different name/type and the RAW file is not altered. I edit my RAW files outside of PSP so have not encountered this before.

Adobe Bridge can do it (not the point I understand)

But it just seems as a workflow, most folks would want to open a directory of recently taken photos (birthday party for example) and want to view all photos appropriately oriented so that the photos could be tagged, deleted, edited, renamed, etc.

Can anyone suggest a workaround where the files can be oriented appropriately (for free) with the the orientation sticking when opened in PSP manager?

Thanks

Google's Picasa is free and it can rotate RAW files in thumbnail view. However, even though the thumbnail then appears in the correct orientation the change does not "take" until you save the change - when you do that it saves a jpg version and retains the original as a backup.

I shoot only RAW and my solution is to use Corel's AfterShot for the initial edit of all the RAW files. From there the images can be saved as jpg (my preference) or TIFF for further processing. Images can be rotated in thumbnail view so that achieves what you are looking for. But it does require a few $$.
