Video Studio X8.5 paste beyond visible timeline section
Hi,
Here's something that stumps me. When I have a certain section of the timeline showing, with various video clips, titles, audio, etc., and I copy one or more items on the timeline and try to paste to a part of the timeline not visible without scrolling, I'm unable to move to that part of the timeline while keeping the copied items. I'm forced to drop them, move the timeline, and do it all over again until I get to where I want to paste them. Yes, I can zoom out to see the entire timeline before copying, but the items I need to copy are then so small I can't select with any accuracy. I must be zoomed in a bit to be able to properly select and copy. But then I'm only able to paste to the right as far as I can see on the visible timeline, which is not the entire line. Any way to move along the timeline past the visible part while keeping an item or items copied?

Select the items you want to move and while holding the left key down drag it down into an empty overlay track and slide to the right - STOP - just before the MOUSE CURSOR reaches very end of the timeline and the whole timeline will scroll left - stop when you get to the place you want to insert it - you can do the same in reverse if you want to go the other way
stops working if you go over the end of the timeline but keep the left key down and move the mouse cursor back over the timeline overlay and it will continue

Re: Video Studio X8.5 paste beyond visible timeline section
Brian, thanks. I can see how that works for moving a selection, but it doesn't seem to work the same for copy/paste of an item or items selected (copied). Once I choose 'copy' I don't have the capability of moving to another part of the timeline. Any idea?

Once copy has been selected, move your pointer anywhere in the next overlay timeline, then click the left mouse button, you can then drag your selection along the timeline, as Brian has advised, then simply drag the clips back up into the main timeline

Re: Video Studio X8.5 paste beyond visible timeline section
Thanks. It's likely my fault, but I'm still not getting the results I need. Probably because I'm copying several items from different rows on the timeline. While holding shift I click one item from an overlay track, one from a title track, and one from an audio track. Once all items are selected I choose copy. That gives me three items copied. Now I need to move far to the right, usually to the very end of the timeline, and paste those three items back to their respective tracks, in the same relative position as the original items. Your instructions do work, thank you, but what I get are all three items pasted to the empty overlay track, side by side. Yes, I can now move that group of items along the timeline, but I'm losing the relative positions of the clips on their original tracks. Is what I need to do able to be done?

I think what you are trying to do is an impossibility, I am not aware of any way you can retain relative positions in that situation, others more knowledgeable may know of a way

Re: Video Studio X8.5 paste beyond visible timeline section
If the clips you want to move are in the same area ie. beneath each other, you could try deleting everything before and after the clips you want to move, then save as a new .vsp project, open the original project then open the new .vsp project and add it in the required location

Re: Video Studio X8.5 paste beyond visible timeline section
Hi Glenn
Good point
Once you copy the clips from the same timeline and drop should retain the same order.
But copy top timeline and overlay clips and all will be pasted to same timeline adjacent to each other.
Ok as a workround
First I would set a Cue Point on the timelines where you wish to drop the selection
Copy and Paste the selection to the right, the new clips will be selected, now drag them down the timeline without copy, just drag and the timeline will scroll.
Upps, unfortunately the scroll only travels the length of the visible timeline.
You don’t say why you need to move/copy the clips, maybe creating an Instant Project would work for you
Hmmm, I think Corel need to check this out.

Can you contact Corel support, they do have a Facebook account that seems to be the way to go.

Place a clip on the timeline where you wish to drop the selection and the timeline will scroll to that location, well just past.

Re: Video Studio X8.5 paste beyond visible timeline section
Hi Lata, thanks for your kind efforts. I'll give it a shot and try contacting Corel via facebook. Your suggestion is very much appreciated. In the meantime, maybe we can continue to try to crack this nut if I keep clarifying my setup? I'm hoping a solution, or at the least a workaround might be found to do what I'm trying to do. It might help others, as well. I'm sending here a screenshot of the setup of my timeline if you'd like to take another shot at this. As you'll see, I have a pattern of 5 elements I'm selecting and trying to copy to the timeline further on down, past the visible portion. There are 4 video clips on three overlay tracks, and one audio file on the voice track (sometimes I'll have clips on the title track, as well). I need to copy these 5 selections and paste further to the right at the end of the timeline, in their same relative positions. It's not always the same five clips I'm copying. It could be the next group of 5 to the right. There are slight differences in each group. What do you think? It seems that X8.5 should have this capability, but darned if I can find it.

Re: Video Studio X8.5 paste beyond visible timeline section
Hi Glenn
That’s a little more complicated having several groups.
Unfortunately, X8 cannot do what you want, although the solution should be simple to copy and paste a selection to the correct timelines?
1 / You can drag the selection down the timelines but that does not copy just moves the selected clips, but does keep in order
2 / We can Copy and Paste a selection provided its on the same timeline and will retain the sync.
But selecting clips over several timelines simply pastes to one timeline.
3 / We cannot Copy say Video and Audio, only same types.
Instant Projects
I did mention using Instant Projects, you could create one of the five clips.
Then add that selection to the end of your project.
You would have to save the project giving it a new name
Delete everything other than the first 5 clips
File Export as Template
A thumbnail will be placed in the library,
Open the original project
right click library thumbnail and Add to end.
That’s the five clips moved.
If you need different clips, drag a new video from the library, hold CTRL key before dropping over a clip, that will replace clip.

Hi Lata, thanks for taking your time to look at my work and respond with a such a detailed explanation for the template workaround. I very much appreciate it. And it's exactly what I'm going to do. My students will appreciate it, too. Rgds, Glenn
