Creating DVD

Post by Brumble Buffin »

Using Share, the project rendered just fine on the blank DVD+R, but when I played it back the project immediately began to play again after the fade to black on the last clip. The project is good enough to want to watch it again  but this is obviously not the way you want it to work.

Please tell me what I need to do to make the 6 minute project stop when it gets to the end.
Thanks very much!

When you are in the create disc module look down in the bottom left corner and click on the little icon which looks like a gearwheel

when the properties box opens look to the bottom and click to untick "auto repeat when disc playback ends" and make sure that the drop down at the very bottom says 'back to menu'

then OK in the top corner to close that - then continue to burn a new DVD

some people do want repeating videos which is why there is that option

O.K. Problem solved with the "loop" business (thanks much) - - but now I'd like to add a Menu to the project, just using a VS template and adding title text (no chapters, etc).

Is there a way to just let the Menu show until you begin the project playback with a start button?

I got the text in, but Preview shows the Menu with jazz music playing and the project video starting by itself as an overlap fade in. I've used the Help button and looked at some YT vids (they're mostly for X5 - - I have X8), but I can't seem to make it work. Suggestions welcome!

You can make your DVD menus look like whatever you want them to look like and play whatever music you want to play

have a look at this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmvWu0lw6G4

it does say in X5 but X8 is the same just follow the steps.

do what you want

I think I'll have to give up on the Menu thing. The DVD plays perfect on the computer - - the menu comes up with the title, you click the start button and the project plays. HOWEVER, when I play the same disc on my TV with a Sony DVD player, the menu comes up with loud jazz music and the project starts playing itself. Totally different and not acceptable. I used one of the VS menu templates, the one with the 35mm film strips, bottom right corner of the gallery I think.

The YT clip suggested was helpful (a key: go to Edit after choosing your template), but where in the world is this "won't-play-on-TV" business coming from?

I don't see how the DVD can play different on your computer from your Sony DVD player.

Just did a simple project using the 35mm film strip menu. When I play the "preview" the menu comes up and it plays jazz music until I select the title to be played

Just an update - - somehow I got the Menu to work without the jazz music and the chapters. Labor intensive! In my case, the value of the Menu was the Start button.

As an alternative solution, I tried to insert a title with its own text at the front of the project using Ripple to lock the timelines. The music track started just fine, but was off by 5 seconds toward the end. Lesson learned: you can easily insert a clip at the end of the project, but getting it at the front is a bear. Get the right clip at the front to begin with.

I hope the moderators don't consider me a troublemaker...
