Write Protected
When I edit a video from my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and try to convert it to MPEG-4 or any other format, I get a flag that says, "May be Write Protected" and I cannot convert it. Can someone provide an answer to this problem?

Re: Write Protected
Hi Christopher
I guess the first question -- is the file “Right Protected”
Something tells me this has been mentioned before, maybe a search of the forums will find any reference.
Some error messages can be misleading, certainly when the program knows there is a problem but not the cause, so may not be Right Protected.
Can you give more details regarding the file, right click a clip in the timeline and choose properties, what are they?
You can take a screenshot and create a Jpeg image to attach to your post.
If you can upload to a sharing site, One Drive , Google Drive or similar we can try on our pc’s.
It may be that you have to use a video converter to create a more editable format.

I am a little more awake now
Please change the "files location" choosing another folder
I suspect the one selected is no longer available, either you deleted it or maybe on a removable drive?

Re: Write Protected
Dear Lata,
Thanks for responding. The video I loaded and edited was taken by my camera, so it is not copyright protected. When I try to covert, it says "may be Write(sic) Protected and will not start the conversion. I took a screen shot and will try to upload.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Write Protected
Have you tried using Windows to make a copy of the clip and give the copy a different name? Can you then open the new file in VS?
Have you checked the Properties of the clip by right clicking on it in File Explorer and checking to make sure it is not marked Read Only for some reason?
Failing these, I would use a video converter program to convert it to a new file with similar properties.
