X8.1 what does this do?

Post by Joelle »

When X8.1 starts up, this screen appears.
I assume the user is meant to click on any of the boxes for more information.
Nothing works, so am not too sure what it is meant to do.
Before I un-tick it, I would love to see what help is offered.
Does this work for anyone else? Or is it a (new) bug?

It works fine for me, and i see various videos there. Also, if you close it, you can always access it again through Help > Welcome.

Thanks Cassel.

Knowing how Corel does things in mysterious way, it might work as it should at a later stage..
It doesn't worry me as I will now un-tick that box, but if anyone else has problems getting any of those entries to redirect them, that wouldn't be good.

I don't know what else is in that 182 MB download that's of any use to me, but so far I have only seen a corrected Burn Brush, seems like a lot of mega bites for a brush ..!
I only use Edit, so might have missed the rest.

The attached is what that screen should look like. The checkmarks beside the first 2 topics are there to show that I visited those links. You might want to try re-installing the patch because it seems like it didn't take properly. Make sure X8 is closed (and maybe check with Task Manager to make sure a process instance isn't still running in the background) before installing the patch.

If/when you get it working, you select a topic on the left and than click the orange Watch Tutorial button bottom right. They all take you to a YouTube video on the subject. These are NOT videos regarding the 8.1 patch but simply videos released in August about these specific tools in X8.

As for what is in the patch, go to this link and then click on the Release Notes link on that page regarding the patch for more info on what it does for X8.

Thanks for posting what that screen should look like, which if different from what I got to see.
I had read what's in the 182 MB download, seems a lot for fixing a brush and the colour replacer (oops, color replacer)

Don't use the RAW utility, tried it a few times when the Canon RAW converter threw a wobbler, was not impressed.

Corel is trying to make PSP become all things to all people, for me it's just Edit that should be worked on, I don't need a file manager etc.
In the good old days (I remember those with fondness) the file manager was a separate download and Adjust hadn't been invented.
The choice has been taken away, not good in my book.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas :-)

I don't know anything about the coding under the hood, but maybe that 182MB is not just added elements, but maybe it includes replacement for existing and fixed files?

The platform for adding videos in the program, i find it pretty cool so users can learn directly there, without having to leave the program. There is also the new Dynamic Tray (currently visible in the Brush tool) where they are setting up the program to allow the users to download/purchase more supplies, directly in the program; this will allow the user to purchase the additional content without having to leave the program, log in somewhere else, download the supplies, install them (and some people don't know where to install them) and get back to the program to use it. I think this is going to be great as many users are looking for additional content to use. Right now, it is only visible for the Brushes but i can see that can be added to other tools, and possibly include some content they currently sell in the Discovery Center.

I think it is good that the SP1 is not JUST a bug fixing patch.
