Avoid rerender when time to burn
Can I save video files in a certain format to avoid rerendering when its time to create a DVD? I have a client who will be supplying me video files edited in Vegas, he has a hundred choices to render too. I am wondering there is a render format that will allow me to quickly burn DVD's for him without VS rerendering. Thanks all.

Hi
Yes
What version of video studio are you using.
A standard definition DVD needs Mpeg2 video files to burn the discs.
The properties have to be compliant to the industries standards, Video Studio templates will do that.
Typically……….
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First ( should be same as original files)
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
The data rate of 8000kbps will allow for upto 75 minutes (Max) to a disc
At 6000kbps 90 minutes
The default templates for Mpeg 2 use 8000kbps, the duration of your movies will determine the data rate.
The video file you create must be under 4.3 Gb so that it fits to disc without further rendering.

...And just a gentle reminder. When the burning module opens, click on the cogwheel Options icon in the bottom left of the burning screen and make sure the box beside "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" is ticked. Since the mpeg-2 video you are wanting to burn is already DVD-compliant using those properties Trevor has set out, this will doubly ensure no further render takes place as part of the burning process (apart from converting any menu you added to DVD format).

Re: Avoid rerender when time to burn
Correct me if I'm wrong , but I think modern DVD players can play MPEG2 file just as that, no need for the DVD profile. So it can be just burn as any file.

Re: Avoid rerender when time to burn
Yes, that may be true. But the question asked related to DVDs. And don't forget for many users out there, that is still what they want and need for distribution to friends and family. You and I might know the various formats which can be recognised and played by DVD players. But there's a lot of people out there who don't want to explain this to relatives or friends receiving their discs. They just want to send a DVD...

Re: Avoid rerender when time to burn
But Ken, if a layman just put this mpeg2 file in his player it will play, who needs the menus ?
Many people don't know that and use the term "DVD" even when no special menu ever needed and is just a hassle.

Not every DVD player plays all formats but every DVD player plays the "standard" DVD format.

Re: Avoid rerender when time to burn
I think asik1 that you have a very rosy view of the world around you - perhaps you are more affluent than many
for many years I have filmed school activities and distributed them on DVD's - it was only a couple of years ago we changed to widescreen as the number of parents with wide screen TV's finally exceeded the number who had 4:3 screens - and I am certain that if we just distributed DVD's with raw mpeg-2 on them we would get 75% of them returned as not working - because they had put them in their 15 year old DVD player and nothing happened.

Re: Avoid rerender when time to burn
Thanks for all the tips. Files were sent in MPEG2 compliant format so was a simple procedure on my end. Burned the 100 minute Nutcracker performance to DL disc and am running through my 1-8 duplicator. The forecast is 40-50 sales so I will deal with any DL disc complications if and when they occur, hopefully none! Happy holidays all.
