How to make font thicker and flash affect on title?

Post by Puddi »

Wanted to thank everyone for their previous help. Hopefully my excessive posting isn't a problem, sorry I'm trying to recreate this video and make my fan-made opening credits similar to the actual opening.

Here is mine:

Here is the one I'm trying to re-create off (I'm actually trying to re-create the One Tree Hill opening but all the opening on youtube are blurry so I'm linking to another fan made one since the idea/fonts are basically the same):

In my version, the font isn't as thick or clean. How would I make it more similar? It's the same font. I tried adding a shadow/border but it made it look even more different. I don't want to change the font. The original show's title sequence had this font (as does the 2nd video) so I'm trying to stay true to the font. Anyway to make this font look thicker/more cleaned?

I'm also trying to add a flash at the start of each title sequence, similar to the second youtube video. I don't like the way mine is transitioning, it's a bit boring. How would I find this? Can I just google sun flash or is there a specific name and insert a effect or is there a specific place in VideoStudio that has these affects? I can't seem to find a gold tint to place either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't change the font. The font I used is binary ITC which is the font they use in the actual opening of the show (and the font the 2nd video used). I'm trying to recreate an opening of the actual show with a fan-made cast so I need to keep the font the same. The font I used is also the font the 2nd video used, but for some reason the 2nd video has a more thicker/cleaner version.

It is certainly easy to make the font fatter by adding a border of the same colour - but as you may have noticed the letters then merge into each other and we need to move them apart (Kerning) - which unfortunately we do not have in Videostudio

I think if it was me at this point I would be opening up my graphics programme and creating the title in the font specified but thicker - all on a transparent (or if pushed green screen) background and putting that image in one of the overlay tracks and placing and sizing it - - you could still apply the customise motion to that to get your wandering titles

With regard to the flash - not sure about that - first off I would be examining the extras supplied with the Ultimate version of VS - such as Adorage or Mercalli - there may well be something like that in there - but I very rarely use those sort of effects and would have to investigate them all before I could help with that - maybe someone who regularly uses those sort of effects can point you in the right direction

Got you, but as I see here
http://www.azfonts.net/load_font/itc_bi ... 70051.html
only the first is ITC , and there is the other which is Impact and it's part of windows.

Yeah that is what I used. First name binary, last name Impact. I'll try the bold version, thanks a ton!

Where did you get that binary ITC font? I can't find in the VS font list.

One way to get thicker font is to put a space between each letter and then put a border around each letter in the same colour. That way the letters don't run into each other.
I downloaded it after searching a long time.

Maybe that's because you haven't installed it in your Windows fonts - all the fonts shown in Videostudio are installed in the Windows fonts folder - Videostudio does not have it's own font list.

Once installed it will be available in VS

How about the shine/gloss? Is there a way to do that in videostudio on the title?

Well I think one thing we would all agree on is that creating title text from scratch in Videostudio can be quite limited

I can only repeat what I said above - I would create any fancy text with shine/shadows whatever in a separate graphics programme - export it on a transparent background for use in videostudio

Quick update: So I ended up bolding the font (not downloading binary bold, i actually hadn't had the original fonts bolded so I bolded the binary and the impact) and it helped a ton.

For the flash affect, theres a filter that has a star/camera lens glare so I'm trying to use those and customizing motion. I'm having trouble aligning the star thought since when you go to custom motion it, there is no x or y allignment so I can't just put in the same # so it starts and ends in the same place. If someone knows a fix to this, that would be appreciated.

In the customise filter window click to tick the little box next to 'Stationary' then the star will remain in the same position throughout the effect.

I feel like I have so many questions but anyway LOL

In regards to the star filter, is there a way to keep it alligned? I have it coming up in each sequence of titles but in different locations. They are all stationary but I want them on a different part of the X-Axis (i.e sometimes I want the star on the left, on the next person I want it on the right, etc). How would I keep the star on the same Y interval but change where it is on the x axis? If I drag, it'll get moved up/down while I'm dragging.

I don't fully understand what you need, but have you set your start position at the first key frame and your last position at the END keyframe?
