I've got the latest patches, I've tried compatibility mode and nothing fixes it. X8 stops working within a couple minutes each time.
I successfully made a shorter 5 minute project a couple weeks ago that only crashed occasionally. Right now however, I am working on a project that is an hour long and X8 clearly can't handle it.
Are there any solutions out there? I've read other topics on this subject but it didn't look like anyone had found a resolution. And I need to get this project done by Christmas....

Hi
And welcome to the forums
Have you purchased VS or using the trial version?
There has been a new patch released recently, SP3, being new I don’t know if the check for updates via the program finds this.
http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/support/updates/
It is possible that the problem is with the actual video files, there are many varieties,
Can you right click a clip on the timeline and select properties, what are they?
Take a screen shot to create a Jpeg image to attach to your post.
How was the video recorded, camcorder, downloaded, TV DVD Recorder?????
Do you receive any error messages when the program stops working.
HD video types, you may need to use Smart Proxy, that creates separate files and does improve project playback.

Re: X8 Constantly "stops working" on Windows 10
Hi thanks for the welcome.
Yes I purchased and I am up to date on patches. No error messages, just tells me it has stopped working. I tried lowering my screen resolution and while that didn't fix the problem, the project does load faster so I can get back to doing 2 minutes of work again before the next crash more quickly
Files are a mix of mp4, Quicktime and just .jpg photos. The Quicktime video clips were done with an iPhone 5 and the mp4 clips with a Samsung Galaxy S5.
What is Smart Proxy? - Edit: NEVERMIND found it. And so far in the past few minutes, no crashes. Keeping fingers crossed.
Thanks again.

Still crashing...though I am getting about 3 minutes between crashes instead of 1.

Hi
Video from Iphones / and Ipads can be troublesome especially if using variable frame rates, They are ok for playback but editing can be difficult.
If you cannot sort it by applying a few settings you may have to use a video converter to create a more editable format.
OK
From Preferences (F6) tick the option Show Messages when inserting first video clip.
Then start a new project, try inserting one of your clips, if Video Studio recognises the file then it will prompt to set the project properties. You can view the properties from the Details button then Choose yes
You will have to start a new project to test the other file.
Matching the project properties may also improve editing.
I notice the frame rates are different the second video 012917.mp4 looks a better option at 29.97fps
If crashes persists try editing just the one video to see if you can identify which is giving the problem, even removing the other from the library.

Followed these tips but with no success.
Still have constant crashes. Tried a new project with just one video file and the same thing still happens. Very frustrated at this point because I've got to get this project done by tomorrow evening.

Re: X8 Constantly "stops working" on Windows 10
Not sure how Win 10 works, but in Win 7 there is a DumpStore, C:\DumpStore, see if you have any vstudio.exe.xxxx.dmp files which are created each time VS crashes, I believe in Win 10 you can open these with WinDbg, if you can you may be able to identify where the issue is. If not you would need to upload the .dmp files to Corel, if you are outside of the 30 day warranty (what a rip off) you may need to try support on Corels Facebook page

Re: X8 Constantly "stops working" on Windows 10
Also, have you tried creating a project just by using the sample video/images without crashing, if you can, this at least tells us that the problem is either with the type of video that you are trying to use or that there is an underlying problem with your set up

Re: X8 Constantly "stops working" on Windows 10
I eventually found that Windows 10 has a feature where it saves previous versions of software. So I reverted to using the version prior to the most recent patch and it worked without any crashes at all. So it has nothing to do with my video formats or anything.
I saw someone else post a topic about their software continuously crashing ever since SP3 as well. So I am thinking that for some of us, SP3 does not agree with our computers for some reason.
