plain DVD menu
I use VideoStudio X7. I make home videos, and I like very plain DVD menus. I want my DVDs to begin playing upon insertion into the DVD player. When the DVD video has finished playing, I want a simple menu picture to display without anything else on the screen. I don't want chapter menus or music or motion menus or any of the buttons that seem to clutter up the screen. If I want to replay the video, I can hit the play button on my remote control.
The only way I've figured out how to do this is to go to 'create menu', pick a menu, and then manually remove each object using either 'hide object' or by changing the object's transparency. Of course, this is a tedious process. Can anyone tell me a simpler way to accomplish this please? Thanks.

Re: plain DVD menu
Not sure I completely follow you - why are you creating a blank menu if you don't want a menu
just untick the "create menu" option on the first screen in the 'create disc' module and no menu will be added - just burn the video to DVD then when you put it in your player it will play to the end - then you push 'play' on your remote and it will play again
or am missing something that you want to happen

Re: plain DVD menu
Ah, you're right, I did forget something. What I like is when the DVD is finished playing, I like to have a picture pop up at the end. I guess it would be the 'background image.' When the DVD ends I'd like to have the background image appear on the screen until somebody either turns the power off or restarts the DVD. That's what I'm trying to find an easier way to do. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: plain DVD menu
Ok - so set yourself up a blank menu with just a play button on it and save it - so once done apart from maybe changing the picture - never again
now when you go to the 'create disc' module insert your DVD menu and then click on the little 'gear wheel' icon in the bottom left corner of that window and put a tick in the box against "play all clips first before menu" - then go on and complete the DVD burn
when you insert the DVD it will play your video first and stop on the menu page waiting further input from you

I'm confused about the 'save it' part. How do I save it? I can't figure that out. In what may be a redundant question, can I create a menu template set up the way I like it?
Thanks again Brian.

Re: plain DVD menu
Yes you can - have a look at this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIuoQp6Bstc
particularly the bit around 3 : 40 where I save the menu I am making - you just need to be in customise and change something and the 'add to menu template' becomes active
a new folder is created on your PC to hold them and they appear in a new panel labelled 'favorites' in the menu gallery - like this - so you can use them again any time

Re: plain DVD menu
Thank you! I got it to save the template, where it goes into the 'favorites' column.
However, I make DVDs in both regular 4.7G discs and bluray discs, so I wanted to verify that this worked for both 4.7 DVDs and bluray discs. I first created the template while setting up a 'DVD', then tested whether I needed to create a separate template for the 'Blu-ray' option. It turned out the my template doesn't show up on the Blu-ray creation. No worries, I figured I would just go through the same process again, set up another template and set all those objects to 99 transparency. When I did the 'customize' and 'Add to menu template', I got a successful saved message. However, the saved template doesn't show up in the gallery. I've tried this a second time, and still it doesn't show up. It's as if it were never created. I can still go to a 'DVD' creation, and the menu template I did for that one still exists. And when I got back to the 'Blu-ray' creation, there's still no saved template there. Can you shed any light on this?
Thanks.

Re: plain DVD menu
Not quite sure what is happening there - when I modify a blu-ray template it puts the new one here
C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\18.0\Favorites\HD Basic\16x9\Favorites
are your new blu-ray templates appearing there
the standard DVD one should be here - C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\18.0\Favorites\16x9\Favorites
and can we just check we are looking in the right place in Videostudio
are you in the window shown below - with "Blu-ray 25G" showing in the bottom left corner - and a gallery drop down with only two choices - All and Favorites ?

Re: plain DVD menu
As it turns out, I was making a pretty dumb mistake. You sleuthed it out pretty well when you put the red arrow on the 25G. I saw that I had 4.7G there instead. It turns out that a couple of times I had been clicking the 'AVCHD' button instead of the 'Blu-ray'. Now I look in Blu-ray, and there it is in the menu gallery. Sorry for making extra work of it.
Thank you very much Brian for your help today. This is exactly the solution I was hoping to find.

Re: plain DVD menu
Hi,
Is there any chances to make edits like discussed before on the ready made AVCHD-menus? There are only 8 of them. They are quite nice but the only thing is that I would usually need to have six - seven thumbnail or text buttons on the main menu and the AVCHD menus have max. five.

Re: plain DVD menu
Hi
The Corel guide Do more Downloads has two Menu Packs, the second installs 10 menus to the BD / Avchd gallery.
I had thought that every menu could be customised to change the layout but that option does not seem to apply to AVCHD menus, Hmmm
I will dig a bit deaper?

Re: plain DVD menu
Hi,
Thank you so much.
I thought I had installed them, tried again, they would not install, tried again, now I was a little bit more careful and noticed that VS gives me that “The installed version of the application could not be determined. The set up will now terminate”. I even tried renaming folder 18.0 to 18.0_old but the only thing it caused is that VD would not work any more. It started but collapsed as soon as I tried to drag a file to the timeline. I wrote to Corel Support about this. Hope they will answer.

Re: plain DVD menu
Hi again,
My version is Video Studio Ultimate X8 18.6.0.6 64bit.
No, I did not uninstall anything (I don’t know how). Then I decided I’d have a go and download VS X9 Trial to see how it works. Well it did not, it opened ok but I could not open any of my VSP files. So I decided it is best to restore my computer. Now my Video Studio X8 is working again except that I still only have eight AVCHD menu templates.
