I like to work on a photo and then when finished, just kill the window, but accept the offer that PSP makes to "Save changes to...<file>?" that PSP has always given me to save my work. I find that the path of fewest clicks to save my work.
But now in X8, such a process enters a "Save As" dialog. That would be OK if it weren't for the fact that when I go ahead and click "Save As" for the current file, it then wants another click to answer the question "File already exists; are you sure you want to overwrite?"
So what has gone from a 2 click save and exit is now 4 clicks. I swear I have disabled everything I could in the Preferences settings.
X8 is even worse in the "Window->Close All" dialog when working on a set of files. There is no longer any reasonable "Yes Save all the modified files" without having to click "yes" on each of them - twice.
Is anyone else having this problem? Am I doing something wrong or is X8 much less friendly in this area?
Thanks
Dean

Re: New "Save As" behavior problematic
Yup, this is a well known feature that has been quite disliked by many: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=57388
They did this in response to the complaints everyone made when hitting Save and the file coming out with drastically smaller. Admittedly they could have done it better.
If you hold SHIFT + click on the Save icon it'll skip the "Save As" option and just save the image using the current settings. That's the best workaround I have to offer. I suppose you could also use a script. The only benefit of using a script is it lets you set the default compression level for all saves.

Re: New "Save As" behavior problematic
Hi Dean,
I complained about this as well. Luckily I still have PSP X2 and there I can do one Save As and change the compression and thereafter that value is used for the Save command.
I worked on 15 images at a time and got it down to one click (on the X for each image) and then hit the Enter key to accept the save.
The "nanny" feature was meant to prevent people saving with the default of 20 compression as well as overwriting previous work.
\In the notes to the first Service pack for X8 which was coming out and is still coming out they changed it to the first Save goes the Save As route (to allow to to check the compression)and then thereafter the Save behaves classically.
Hopefully that will be out soon.
