Just noticed the update to 8.5 for free - but it sets your prog to 18.5.0.23 and mine's already 18.6.0.6.
My question is: do I need this? does it matter about the version number?

Yes install SP3.
As far as I know 18.6.0.6 is the full updated version, including all service packs.
I think Corel have recently updated the way service packs are delivered.
I have just re-installed X8 and only had to apply SP3.
In the past SP2 and a Hot Fix would have been offered, SP 3 seems to cover all older patches.
I think you may find you are fully installed.
If you do try to install any service packs I believe you will get the message , “version cannot be determined”, that’s Corels way of saying the SP is already installed.
