I have VideoStudio X7 Pro, Ver 17.1.0.22 (64bit Pro) running under 64bit Win 7 Professional.
I only deal with MP4 files, mainly from my Panasonic Lumix TZ60 camera. I find that in about a fifth of the cases the file freezes completely when being rendered in VSX7 (but not when being edited). None of the usual commands will close the program, the only way is to force it to close in the Task Manager. Other video programs, such as Handbrake, have no problem in dealing with the files; in fact my standard procedure is now to re-render all files in Handbrake, which is a bit of a nuisance. I also found that clipping off the last few frames of a clip also seems to generally help but, with say 50 clips, this is a serious and time-consuming nuisance.
I have looked at the error message in the Windows Event Viewer, which is:
The program videostudio.exe version 17.1.0.22 stopped interacting with windows and was closed.
This error message is not particularly informative and I was wondering if there is some more detailed error log that I could access.
A screen dump of the properties of a typical file is attached.

Re: MP4 files freeze in VS X7
Hi
When edit do you match the video properties to the MP4 TZ60 files.
From Preferences (F6) - Show messages when inserting first clip
It has to be the first clip added so start a new project.
When you Share to render the project what options do you choose?
Same as First Video Clip, assuming that’s a TZ60.MP4 would use the same properties as original.
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Baseline Profile Video: 16799 Kbps, 16:9
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
But what do you choose.
What are you trying to create, I assume MP4 for the internet?
I have a TZ70 but choose AVCHD not MP4, very similar to TZ60 -- excellent cameras

Re: MP4 files freeze in VS X7
Hi
There does seem to be a problem using my TZ70 MP4 files with X7
I match the project properties using the Show Messages options is causing problems.
When I view the Project Properties they appear ok using 1280 x 720, if I choose to Edit then the frame size is wrong.
this shows as an error when trying to render via Share - same as project properties.
Editing the properties for a Video Type Baseline I am unable to set 1280 x 720
I choose H.264 High and I can now set 1280 x 720.
So I cannot rely on Show Messages to set the correct project properties.
I have to set manually and that would be dependent on my output file, what I am trying to make.
I have tested my files using X8 and do not have this problem
Whether X8 will overcome your crashes, I don’t know.
X8 Trial is a cut down version with many features removed, I do believe the Mpeg4 options are fully functioning so you should be able to test your files.

Re: MP4 files freeze in VS X7
Thanks for the replies. However, It seems that lata may well have already solved my problem! Before replying here I did a bit of quick googling and discovered lata's recent post at http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=58021 about the Hotfix involving a new version of ulmp4lib.dll.
Anyway, I downloaded the copy he kindly provided (he is quite correct, the official download doesn't work) and installed it. A couple of quick trials with some of the problem files seem to have been successful. I need to test it more comprehensively but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi
Thanks for the feedback
You would hav thought that the latest SP for X7 would have included the latest ulmp4lib.dll. file
Anyway you seem to have the problem sorted.
